Are they applying fuel surcharges now? Called for a US-DXB-India itin and total taxes and fees were $779. I didn't call the US office, maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

The numbers don`t sound right.
Does the tax figure match the taxes shown on matrix for your exact itinerary,
with POS (Sales city) set as Tokyo?
Just HUCA and try several times, making sure to specify Emirates.
They could have quoted you an itinerary on BA or QR.

A casual check shows the YQ to be way higher than that (see below)
From http://matrix.itasoftware.com
Los Angeles (LAX) to Delhi (DEL) - Thu, Oct 5

This was a one-way, so it would be correct. It was very clear that it was an Emirates itinerary, connecting in Dubai.

It's already in this thread, but just a reminder: JAL award bookings on Emirates business class will not receive chauffeur service. Not sure about first class, but I am assuming it's the same.

When you use your EK booking reference number to manage your booking, select seats, etc. you will be offered the opportunity to book a chauffeur, but if you actually try to do it you'll get an error.

Are you allowed to combine JL and EK metal on the same award itinerary, while also including stopovers using the distance-based chart?

According to Great Circle Mapper, the route is 9993 miles. As the IATA miles that JAL uses are sometimes slightly different, it may just push you over the magical 10.001 miles.
After 1st of October, 105.000 if below 10.001 and 115.000 if 10.001 or higher.

I second what CPH-flyer said. JAL clocks the one way at 9,987. So if you book before Oct 1 you can save yourself 5,000 miles. After that it'll be 105K.

Here is a link to the official JAL mileage calculator.

Are there fuel surcharges on Europe to Middle East (DXB) ?

The agent has quoted me about $700 in taxes+fuel for DUB->DXB roundtrip in business. He's based in California.

He insists that anywhere in Europe to DXB has high charges, it's US routes etc that have low charges.

ITA matrix shows ~$700 is correct. I've tried different sales cities.

I've looked through 10 pages here and can't find anyone talking about EU routes that don't involve US.

edit: Thanks for the replies. Seems to be correct unfortunately. Paid it. Someone needs to write a blog post about this because all the info out there is so US centric.
