Just to kick start a wiki, with answers to frequent questions.
1. We're flying HND-NGO-HNL. NGO-HNL is booked in business class, but HND-NGO is in economy. Will we still get the baggage allowance as if we're flying business class the whole way?
A: Yes. written here (link)
2. We're flying HND-NGO-HNL. Will we have lounge access in HND?
A. Definitely, within the lounge access rules of course. written here (link)

It seems unlikely that they've sold out the entire cabin, especially since LAX has at least 2 tickets available just about every day between the end of March 2023 and the end of October 2023. They are still operating a 777 on JL001 when the summer season starts, so it's not because of an equipment swap to a different type without F
Currently it is not a 77W daily, so probably because they are still tweaking what days they are planning to fly a with F to SFO.

I flew KIX-OKA (JTA005) a few days ago in J, and was surprised there was not any kind of additional service for J pax. Just the same beverage service as for Y. Is this normal? I mean it's almost a two hour flight so I assumed there would be at least some kind of small snack. Domestic Sakura lounge at KIX didn't really offer anything food-related either so I was completely famished when I arrived in OKA.

I have a long layover in HND (9 hours) and travelling as a OWE. Is it pretty straightforward to use the lounge for a brekkie and shower and enter the City? Or do I need to have an escort to go to the arrivals level?

Class J is not business class, it is basically just a better economy class seat. And a few extra drinks options. The cash pricing does kind of reflect that, it is a 2000 JPY uplift compared to the equivalent Y fare. It may sometimes seem more, as the Y fare can be available at a lower fare class than one that allows to be combined with Class J.

The latter, you need to backtrack through transit security so to say.

Okay, thanks for explaining it. So I need to book First class to actually get business class. Well, something to look forward to next time!

Meal question-- Some airlines' F and C meals are quite similar. I have flown JAL C 5x on long hauls in the last 6 months. Tomorrow I"m in F on HND-ORD. I love Japanese food, and find the JAL C meals quite good quality. Are the F meals a step up from the C meals?
I'd be up for trying some western food if it's anything special. Any opinions on picking Japanese vs. Western food in F?
Thanks!

The F meals are a significant step above the J meals. It depends on the specific menu what I'd pick, but I have had both the Japanese and western meals several times. I'd probably say the Japanese for first time flying F from Japan.

Got it, that makes sense, do you know when the S23 schedule is typically finalized?

They will not finalise the entire summer schedule in one go. But I'd expect the next chunk to happen mid to late January.

Makes sense, I'm looking at April and May so I'm guessing that would most likely be in the mid-to-late January update. Thanks!

I just booked JAL in J with AA miles. Got the flight locator code from AA for JAL but when I went to JAL's website, it could not find my booking nor I am able to manually enter it in. Website is not so user-friendly at all. Any clue how should I go about it? Thanks.

Update: Figured it out. You actually have to log out of JMB account in order to manage booking and select seats. Now the question is which is the best seat? Business class on 777 has Seat 7 near the lavatory. Is this really that close to the lav with too much traffic?

Hi all - First time flying JAL and have a few questions. I am flying NYC-NRT-HAN in J. Flights booked via AMEX travel. I have an AAdvantage account but no status with AA.
  • FF Account & Upgrades - I haven't attached a FF account to the record. Currently don't have status with AA. Have never flown F before and enticed by the potential to try Int'l F. Flight pattern for rest of 2023 is haphazard but almost all domestic US, so would prefer to attach AA account for earning purposes. Considering signing up for JMB to help with potential upgrades (would need to create the account and transfer in points).
    • If I attached my AA account, could I use AAdvantage miles to secure an upgrade to F (pending availability)?
    • If I need to create a JMB account, are there any downsides to creating a JMB account and attempting to secure an upgrade this way? Can I call to confirm upgrade availability if I don't have a JMB account on file or if there reservation carries my AA account # (and then switch over to JMB)?
  • Seat selection - I have confirmed seats but mostly in the aisle and would prefer a window if possible. I attempted a dummy booking and noticed several open window seats but when I attempt to manage my booking on JAL's site I only see aisle seats open. Are these typically blocked off? Are there any alternative approaches to find a window seat? Is it worth calling customer service ahead of time? Do things open up closer to departure?
Thank you in advance for the help.

Are you booked on AA codeshare, or on the native JL flight numbers?
