For those interested...

As a PC Ambassador I emailed the hotel to enquire about which room to book to receive club access and here is the reply:

Dear fifa,

Thank you for your email. The room type you need to book is a Superior Riverview room. From this category you will be upgraded to a suite without access to the club lounge or you can request to have a Club Intercontinental room with the access to the club lounge.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries regarding this, or if we can be of any further assistance.

Kind Regards,

So I booked a room for $184 during the recent sale, on the Friday night of Oz Fest. The other nights we are staying at CP.

I am doing the opposite, CP for the Friday night on the 5K rate then over to the IC for Sat/Sun using a BOGO.

Still only seeing Suites for Friday-Saturday-Sunday:

PP Member BOGO
$280.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL SUITE
$465.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BED EXECUTIVE SUITE
$565.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BEDROOM DIPLOMATIC SUITE
$1,035.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BEDROOM PRESIDENTIAL SUITE

But if I do Saturday-Sunday-Monday I get:

PP Member BOGO
$195.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BED CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL
$195.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 2 SINGLE BEDS CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL
$195.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL ROOM
$202.50 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING RIVER VIEW CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL
$280.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL SUITE
$465.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BED EXECUTIVE SUITE
$565.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BEDROOM DIPLOMATIC SUITE
$1,035.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BEDROOM PRESIDENTIAL SUITE

And if Wednesday-Thursday-Friday

PP Member BOGO
$130.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BED SUPERIOR
$130.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 2 SINGLE BEDS SUPERIOR
$130.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate SUPERIOR ROOM
$142.50 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BED RIVER VIEW
$142.50 AUD Average Nightly Rate 2 SINGLE BEDS RIVER VIEW
$185.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BED CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL
$185.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 2 SINGLE BEDS CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL
$185.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL ROOM
$192.50 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING RIVER VIEW CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL
$270.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING CLUB INTERCONTINENTAL SUITE
$455.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BED EXECUTIVE SUITE
$555.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BEDROOM DIPLOMATIC SUITE
$1,025.00 AUD Average Nightly Rate 1 KING BEDROOM PRESIDENTIAL SUITE

So there must be heavy bookings for Friday night (even though that seems easy enough to book as fifa has noted) that annul the PP BOGO rate even though I can book a room at the Best Flex rate and use an Ambassador BOGO.

Just got a VERY hard sell phone call from PP, asking me to renew (my year finishes end April)

He came up with every reason why I should renew then and there over the phone..enticing me with the $100 dining voucher, which he explained as good as whacking $100 down on a bill of $130 bucks and only paying $30.

He also said they had closed renewing online, because people had "problems" and initimated I wouldnt receive 2nd year benefits  which included a new orange card and his services as my personal assistant and I'd never pay rack rate again

Of course I did not mention, I had been planning to renew with the NZD OPTION, but did mention I was probably going to renew thru the Little Nomads discount, to which he replied that I wouldn't get the $100 dining cert which he likened to a $100 discount off my membership, which of course I countered with, well give me $100 of my membership now and lets call it all done :p. sadly he couldn't do that :(
Anywhoo, finally got him off the phone, with the promise of him calling me again tomorrow
Seems I can still renew online, most economical is renewing with another for 50% off the second card, anyone else up for renewal?
Gotta say the hard sell was a bit offputting, probably what I get from ignoring the many last chance emails they've sent since January :p
And I still have basically all lasts years certs left, tho stillfeel I am ahead

I got the EXACT same phone call a month ago (apparently they still havent fixed the problem they were having renewing online a month ago) Happy to report, I had NO PROBLEM renewing online, got my new orange card and got the $100 dining voucher as well. Even manged to do it with the Little Nomads discount. So it looks like the hard sell and all the excuses for renewing on the phone was all lies. I expect they get commissions, hence the hard sell :D

and THAT is exactly why it is so great to have access to a forum like this and benefit from everyone's real experiences so we dont have to believe their stories!

All the time he was talking I was thinking I need to get on FT and check this out :D

He jus went on and on, and to get rid of him, I said I was not comfortable about giving my CC number over the phone, he got all offended and started telling me all my details, full name, address, etc, saying he did this 100s of times a day.
He also said CP Torquay was in the programme and I wouldnt mind a weekend there, but its not bookable currently, and wasn't when I checked again after his call
I am also curious what he meant by "never pay rack rates again" like it was a new benefit

Somehow I have a feeling we both got the call from the same guy. He was like a pitbull, he just wouldnt let go. I told him I would be renewing online as I was currently away on holidays (in an IC hotel of course) and would take care of it when I returned home. The got at least 2 calls everyday after that from the same number which I refused to answer. It was almost enough to turn me off the program, if it didnt save me so much money. I havent had a call since I renewed so I am guessing he gave up on getting his commission :D

My membership expires at the end of the month too, but I have yet to receive these calls...probably because I am up in Canada! (And never answer 800, 866 or Unknown Caller calls.) But no emails reminding me to renew either. Since I have made good use of the program and plan to use it again later this month in Melbourne, and at the end of May, I will try to renew online in the next few days. Having read about the $100 dining incentive, I would certainly like to ensure somehow that I get that extra incentive.

Good luck, I hope you get the $100 dining cert too. I am pretty sure you will. If not, contact them and ask them where it is? Let us know how you go and enjoy yourself while in my home town :D

No calls for me in the UK either, with an expiry at the end of April - I wondered if I hadn't given a valid phone number but have just checked and it is still current, so I assume they only call locals.

I won't be renewing as I only purchased the membership for a one-off trip, but would certainly sign up again if I was heading back to Australia in the future.

perthite Apr 13, 2010 6:00 pm

I just received an email for my renewal (which is in May), and no sign of the $100 voucher this time:

We would also like to offer you the chance to renew your membership online and receive a complimentary supplementary card and 1 x Extra Stay 2 Nights for the Price of 1!
I concur with the comments about the telesales team. If I didn't know what the program was, I would swear that they were trying to sell me some scam program.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.2.14912/742; U; en) Presto/2.4.15)

I spoke too soon about not getting a renewal phone call - woken up this morning at 2 a.m. UK time by a very pushy sales person, who knew I was in the UK but didn't seem to understand the concept of time zones. I'm afraid to say that I was quite rude to him, but hopefully made it clear that I won't be renewing so don't phone again (and I will update the phone number on my account to my work number, just in case).

I also had a phone call. For reference purposes, the caller was male with an Indian accent.

He was incredibly pushy. He started with the "Have an ejoyable night at the IC Melbourne, drive down to CP Torquay with your partner and relax on the beach with a picinc, etc." (I wonder how often that spiel works?).

By the end of it, he was actually yelling at me saying "Tell me then. Tell me why this isn't a good offer? Why shouldn't you signup? I am giving you $100. If you don't signup you will not be gold anymore, no recurring benefits, you will lose all your points (points? haha), etc."

Apparently they are making the program "global" where you can use your benefits worldwide. I'd like to see that happen, but I wont hold my breath.

The guy was a d!ckhead, and should be fired.
