There was a loophole for booking which has now been closed. I helped some folks with it last year so basically they're telling you that you missed the opportunity.

As it stands right now, most people are piecing together dates as they come available.

One strategy is to book le moana on the nights you're unable to get at thalasso. And then keep checking the nights you have at moana and see if they open up at thalasso and then book them quickly.

Craziness. There is one room available and hundreds of people
trying to book it. Good luck

Thanks for sharing. Good news is that I actually went to Thalasso on points already in 2013, when the award booking was not crazy at all. Just trying to return for my anniversary now. Guess this time I may have to try my luck or suck it up and pay!!!

Kristy, they used to release more rooms on points, now - only one.
There are way more people trying now than even 2 years ago.
Bloggers sold them "a dream" - just get that many credit cards
FROM ME and you will travel to Bora Bora for free!
Thalasso became a poster example of "how amazing this hobby is".
Everybody, his grandma and all the cousins know about it now.
It's a completely different scene. Many here have travelled to Thalasso
several times on points before, not easy/almost impossible now.
You might have missed the price hike also, they raised the prices big time
just a few weeks ago...

It is indeed sad. I wish they change the policy so that award nights on popular properties like Thalasso/Le Moana are no longer refundable after, say, 7 days so that people don't hoard the nights for speculative reasons and not release them till much later on.

Yea saw the discussion on the price hike. Think I'd go for St Regis if I were to pay out of pocket...

I suggested the non-refundable policy for Thalasso several months ago. That will make people think long and hard before booking at the max time out.

Is that true, only 1 room is released for points now?

I don't think this is true as I have seen the nights I have booked on points appear blue on the calendar for reward night availability recently.

Yes, only 1 room when calendar opens up. Sometimes they release
more rooms just days before, usually in the low(er) season.

When I booked it said only 3 rooms left (on reward bookings),so I am going to say that is incorrect. Given I booked a year ago.

In January, we spent 2 nights Thalasso, 1 night Moana, 5 nights Thalasso.

As we approached our stay, the calendar showed blue days for some of the nights that we had booked with points months prior.

So, yes, more than one room can be offered up for points. It may be only one initially, however, but as the year goes by, leading up to that stay, more may open up. In fact, I secured 2 of those Thalasso nights in the month before our stay (1 3-4 weeks, 1 1.5 weeks) Switched nights from Moana to Thalasso.

In fact, I held for a moment 2 rooms at the Thalasso for about an hour about a week prior to arrival. My chase free night was deposited into my account and my wife's account. I booked the free night to replace a points booking. Once complete, canceled my points book to reclaim points. Did that for both my wife an I.

My strategy for 2017 is booking the Moana, and looking for nights at the Thalasso in close. The only problem is, I have 5 nights at the Moana booked at 50k, and if a night opens at the thalasso then it will cost 60k :-(

And for all you people suggesting there be a no refund policy ... that is ridiculous.

You make a false assumption and in return suggest a solution that doesn't address the issue.

You falsely assume there are lots of speculative bookings because you aren't successful in getting a reward night. When they release 1 night and it seems the whole world travel community is trying to book it, then of course, it is going to be difficult to get the night. The Thalasso is opening up extra nights for points that weren't sold in close to booking. That doesn't mean they were available previously.

Carl, do you really don't think that a lot of people make speculative bookings? I'm not saying people book random days they know they can't go, but I do think people hold rooms "just in case". We have lots of people doing that here.
