Folks, does anyone have experience using Citi to transfer money to India:

https://asia.citi.com/india/money_tr...&site=Cricinfo

Are there any other ways to transfer electronically?

snod08 Dec 17, 2010 3:14 pm

I used xoom.com

Can transfer directly ($$ to Rupees) to pretty much any bank account in India. There are limits on how much you can transfer in one shot (i think 2500USD or something like that).

My sister is trying a new currency trading service to do this - let's see if it works, then will advise!

How are the rates??

We did an informal test of bank rates some time ago, and HSBC came out the best - but their service is absolutely horrible...

Can you transfer directly to someone's bank acct and also set up a fixed schedule? Do you get better rates if one has a Citi acct in India?

I compared xoom and citi and it looks like the latter has better exchange rates and cheaper fees.

Actually in the US, Citi has quite a few fees for anything and everything, which is why I didn't even bother checking the rates before posting here. The $1 fee is even offset by the postage

Folks, do hotels in India insist on proof of marriage before allowing a man and woman inside one room? I ask b/c of the foll:

http://www.rediff.com/news/slide-sho...t/20101220.htm

Shocked that this is in BOM. My wife has not yet changed her last name, we don't have any of the marriage signs like rings.

No way man! Maybe the seedy 1 star joints might but I have never been asked at any hotel and have never heard of anyone being asked this either.
