Bye bye Puri-ji. That guy was super protectionist and generally annoying. How someone who worked for multilateral organizations all his life become so bigoted is amazing.

First thing the minister announces is 8 new routes that are subsidized by the GoI via the UDAN scheme. Surprise surprise they all fly to MP and 3 of them to Gwalior:

The list: The Airline Codes Website

Singhania is an avid airman, but really? Why not ask for the ICAO airport codes to be changed too? VIDP, VABB, VECC and VOMM must be equally insulting? :D

Singhania's campaign has been gladly picked up by the BJP and now the ministry has to justfy why VT is still used:

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com...w/84856892.cms

Explaining the history of this code, the minister said the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has allotted three series of call signs to India: ATA-AWZ, VTA-VWZ and 8TA-8YZ.
"Call sign could be the first one or two letters of the series, such as: Series 1 - A, AW, AV, AU, AT etc; Series 2 - V, VW, VV, VU, VT; Series 3 - 8, 8T, 8U, 8V, 8W, 8X, 8Y etc.," he stated.
According to the provisions of Annex 7 of the Chicago Convention of 1944, India had the option to choose its call sign from the above three series for aircraft registered in the country, Singh said.
"The call sign VT was assigned to India during International Radiotelegraph Convention of Washington, 1927 signed at Washington on 25th November 1927," he added.

This is just crazy!

"Hindustan cannot be a territory of the Viceroy.... Why is India continuing with the VT code?... VT should be changed right away," he had said in the Upper House of Parliament.
Nobody calls it Hindustan either... and the concept of 'India' didn't come up before we were colonialised by the British :p If VT really was 'Viceroy Territory', whats behind VH (Australia) VR/VP/VQ (misc commonwealth countries) ?

no more forms to fill out....after getting off the plane you need to walk over to the testing area, give a sample, get your boarding pass stamped & then go for immigration....

2 planes had landed around the same time when we were there last week so it took about 30 minutes by the time we got done with the tests....
