So it turns out you can't just announce CCU-LHR flights and take passengers on... even if everything is bubbling along fine:

“We have already said that Air India could not fly direct to London from Calcutta because of last-moment slot constraints and non-availability of all the permissions. It is hoped that direct flights will operate soon with the green lights from the authorities,” the Air India spokesperson said on Saturday.

Till the permission is received, the flight will continue to go via Mumbai, the spokesperson said.

Well AI just started flying planes 3 days a go and to the UK since yesterday how are they supposed to know you need permissions and approvals from both CAA and LHR! That's just the kind of absurd bureaucracy that AI wants to remove.

Maybe one of you knows:

I've noticed that the business jets of Reliance Industries (VT-HMA and VT-IAH) often visit MUC and park for a while... Does RIL have any ops in Munich or do some of the Ambanis just like the Bavarian Alps? (Life the King of Thailand who practically lives here).

Anybody know if there is a better offer on the taj hotel gift cards around? I can just find the usual 10% off code (right now its VISA). A few years ago (2019?) they have a 25% off code in February....

I would be interested in this as well. Amazon.in had a discount at one time a year or 2 ago...but only 10% I think...

Could you provide link to the Visa offer? Or for which site exactly?

oliver2002 Feb 2, 2021 7:14 am

You just enter 'VISA' in the promo code field on the bottom left of the gift card order form and it reduces the amount due by 10%.
The offer is explained here: https://www.visa.co.in/en_in/visa-co...riences/130126

Book on www.tajhotels.com/giftcards and apply the coupon code VISA to avail the 10% off on Taj Experience Gift cards.
Offer valid from October 1, 2020 00:00 GMT - December 31, 2021 23:59 GMT
I just looked up the purchase I made in 2019 and it was 10% back then too. Somehow remembered it to be better... :( The gift cards can be used to pay for Taj hotel stays just like any other form of payment. I'm staying at the Taj in Kolkata on our corp rate next month, and am looking to save some further cash :)

Amex members get a cheaper (-25% on rack) rate when booking at Taj, but that rate is not as good as our corp rate ;)

Anyone have any coupons/deals to book a domestic flight on GoAir/Indigo?

Just have to book a ticket for an employee that is close-in and relatively expensive...

Maybe Keyser can comment, but why on earth does a cartel investiagtion by the CCI take 6 years? https://economictimes.indiatimes.com...w/81167341.cms

That's exactly how much flying time it takes between DEL, BOM, HYD etc to rack up enough miles for a trip to Ibiza!

these type of investigations are politically motivated so they can take 6 days or 6 years depending on how keen the government is in taking action....if the airlines are run by people loyal to the opposition then the investigations will be wrapped up quickly & the parties will be found guilty....if they are loyal to the current government then the investigations will remain pending while the suitcases are delivered to the relevant offices every holi, diwali, dusshera, eid, christmas, etc....after a few years they will find no evidence of wrongdoing & the whole thing goes away....

The ORD/LHR hotel tender makes interesting reading in what perks the cabin in charge and flight deck is supposed to get in upgrades. The BHX catering tender is very detailled, with recipes for all possible dishes that may come up in the next three years and detailled load locations in the 787. :D

AI has issued the tender to supply JFK with meals. This time the recipes are in ANX5. http://tenders.airindia.in/resource/ISNYC523281.html

A friend just lost his family member. He has a visa for India on his UK passport which I believe is not valid right now due to covid. He needs to go asap to India. Can he travel on that visa? Would anyone know?
