best places to buy the iPhone 5 IMHO will be UAE, HKG, USA (unlocked at all 3 places!) but yeah, in UAE and HKG there are no taxes or minimal taxes on top of the original price of the phone.

USA is unlocked iphones!? I did not realize that at all!!

they don't come out on day one. but maybe a month after launch. at full price since there is no carrier subsidy. I picked up a iPhone4S for 649$ + the 8.75% state sales tax in NYC last year end and they were available since Nov' 11.

If you buy from an online retailer (like Amazon.com), you don't even have to pay sales tax.

I picked up the iPhone 5 (32gb) for £599 unlocked. Unfortunately my carrier is not gonna support the nano sim for a few weeks yet! Going to have to experiment by cutting it.

That's why I have a contact in SEA to pick up items.
I also give him rides across the border for Canada domestic flights that can be cheaper than flying from SEA and he gives me free parking there.

Nano sim is a different ball game. U can't cut a sim to make it nano. So just wait for one

My operator are saying it will be months before they launch a nano sim. No way can I wait post Friday morning never mind a few months.

Apparently you can cut it and just sandpaper the excess 11% width away in seconds.

good if you found a way. i've broken the tray of my 3GS once by trying to stuff in a microsim with an adaptor back in there. i won't take the chance :p

i'm planning on picking one up in london as well next week....i'll get about 10% vat back so it will cost me around £550, which is not a bad price considering the inr 80k my phone guy wants here....

I think you will be lucky to get one as apparently its on a 3 week back log now if you order online. Not sure how they will do the daily pickup orders for this one? For the 4s you had to log on at 9pm every night and see if you were lucky enough to book one through your iTunes account. Took me 2 weeks to get it that way.
