Move your business elsewhere....no one cares. I tried the GM, Hyatt Customer Service and basically no one is accountable for service faults.

Horrible GM

The GM is terrible. Never will stay there again! I complained to Hyatt and it seems like nothing has been done.

There are a few places in the world I will never stay at again and the PH Melbourne is one of them.
The service was abominable- arrogant and unresponsive to the many problems. It's a shame but it must stem from management. What amazes me is that with all of the negative comments out there about the hotel why does management do absolutely nothing???

It's actually been consistently having problems through more than one GM. This is ironic, since much of the most successful management staff of PH's throughout Asia comes from Australia or New Zealand.

I would appreciate it if anyone could post recent stay experience. Is it still not good (aka bad) as it shows on the reviews from earlier this year?

I wonder that is the reason the hotel is available for FFN for the dates I am looking...?

Thanks in advance.

The PH is our local and we use it when we are in town or before flights. It is one of the nicest places in town and have never been able to work out what has got up the noses of previous post. Australian GMs are not the meet and greet sort, they tend to be the deal makers, and rarely go out of their way to meet guests who are on freebies. Hyatt rates are clear cut, they do not include breakfast unless you buy that rate. Truely if you can't afford a breakfast, you shouldn't be in a Hyatt anyway in the Asian region. The problem is the overseas gold passport holders are used to $80 nights compared to Asia which range around the $500.. If you don't like the PH, may I suggest the Sofitel at the top of Collins, regards bkkrop

It may well be one of the nicest places in town based on physical plant, but having made both paid and free stays over the years, I can assure you that the service problems were not related to one's type of stay.

And in fact, Australian GM's at Hyatts and luxury hotels in other countries somehow learn how to be the meet-and-greet type. Maybe it's because they don't do as much deal making, preferring to spend their time paying attention to their customers.

Can you really tell me that when the cold water goes out at midnight in half the hotel, meaning that toilets couldn't flush (among other things), an appropriate answer is the one I got: "We don't want to bother the plumber this late?" That is just one of the many serious problems I have encountered over the years at this supposed luxury hotel.

That being said, service was improved on my last stay there (about 9 months ago), and I am hopeful that it is a long term positive change.

I am at this property and it seems everything is fine so far. While a front desk agent was doing check-in for me, a front desk manager came out to greet me and he escorted me to my room (xx66) which has a great view.

The Club Lounge is really nice with lots of nice offerings (drinks/food/setting). The lounge concierge is very attentive and friendly. I was told that breakfast at the restaurant is complimentary. They sent me a nice bottle of Shiraz to my room.

On and off the topic of The PH Melbourne

I am not aware of all the details of your awful experience.
It is a very interesting story as sad as it is to hear.
The management on property should have been removed long ago. Hyatt allowed in one of the friendliest and service oriented cities in the world this business culture to exist for years
The bigger problem lies IMO that Hyatt itself has let customer service ethics erode at some of their hotel levels and within Omaha to the lowest levels historically.

Hyatts attention isn't with Consumer/Guest Relations, customer service or hotel experience other then decor & f &b options
It is with getting the run down poorly noise insulated AmeriSuites refabbed into Hyatt Places and the Andaz brand up and running.
Focus on customer service for three to 4 years has taken a back seat as those at the corporate level feel those elements can be neglected and guests will still come and support the program and the brands.
This is not to say that there aren't some excellent Hyatt Hotels who do a superb job......there are without a doubt.

Some wonderful upbeat bright professionals still shine within select Hyatt properties that make the brands proud
But the way I see it the Park Hyatt brand is no longer of interest to Hyatt
No new Hotels in North America and what they had in LA and SF is long gone
Sad Sad Sad

Back on topic I agree with your assessment that if there is anything positive left about the Park Hyatt Melbourne it is the upgrade system for Gold Passport Members. That is the one thing they do very well.

I know that the RC staff is quite abrasive but I assumed it was an Australian thing. Then I was thinking that maybe people try to take advantage of this RC more so than any other RC in the world. But I can't imagine that is the case either. This certainly makes me angry but you must provide more details of why they shouted you down and why you were in the right. I am certainly considering cancelling my reservation in two weeks. I see you are a Diamond but it is not reflected on your profile. Was this a status match?

This was my second stay at the PH Melbourne. I don't know why but the first stay wasn't particularly memorable, but I was only GP Plat at that stage. I returned to the hotel as a Diamond and was upgraded to a Deluxe Club Room with a spa in level 19. Had booked on a limited time offer on the lowest category room. It was AMAZING! Unlike the Grand Hyatt, which has just had a stunning $40m renovation, which provides club rooms as standars rooms with club access, Decluxe Club Rooms at the PH are at double that in size. The rooms are like junior suites with a bed, study area with leather chair, armchair, lounge and.... a firplace! Major +++. The bathroom is combined with the dressing area and was almost as large as the room itself. The view overlooking the Melbourne CBD was stunning. Diamond amenity was 3 fresh apples and chocolates. While not a bottle of wine it was more useful on a business trip.

The club was on the same level and had a good selection of alochol, cold canapes, but only 2 hot selections; croquettes and chicken wings? Was closed for breakfast so enjoyed it in the restaurant downstairs.

Overall a really great stay. Service is more attentive and in line with PH, rather than the GH Melbourne. For some reason on this trip I appreciated the understated elegance of this hotel more, from the architecture to the fitness centre which has a gorgeous pool/spa overlooking the park. Will definitely return.

Can anyone advise what the Diamond Suite Upgrade books into? I like the hotel and love the Club Deluxe Room but want to burn the e-cert before it expires. Upon inspection the Park Suite King (55sqm) is smaller than the Club Deluxe Room (60 sqm)?

The suites at the Grand Hyatt are 80sqm so I may stay there instead.
