Food in the RC was un-impressive and sorry but bringing back a bottle of wine open the night before is unacceptable...sad because the RC concierges are doing a great job !

Nice but short stay for us this week. TH checked in a day early and they gave her a room on the RC floor (847, next to the suite we had last time). Her power was out and they sent up maintenance immediately to fix problem (breaker was flipped). The Concierge was concerned that this was a problem, it was not as they sorted it out so quickly. The fact that the hotel has an amazing air conditioning system is fabulous, we were able to cool down room to our bone chilling temperature of choice.

I think I like the new configuration for the RC, its very modern. TH says she sort of missed the chintz. Breakfast was still very good, though no decaf coffee avail able in espresso machine.

TH said night munchies were good.

I love this hotel for the fact that doormen are always pleasant and remember you as well as the RC staff, even if you only stay three times a year.

Any recent thoughts on this property? I am considering a stay in August with the family.


How is the RC?

Staff still attentive?

Rooms still clean and spruced up?

There is now free wifi in the club room (and some lucky adjacent rooms that get the signal). Ask the club desk people for a password.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong thread, I did several searches and no consolidated Hyatt Regency Churchill thread showed up, although I strongly suspect there is one.

Stayed there last week for the first time. Front desk staff very poilte and efficient. Upgraded to a view room (of the police station opposite). Quite small room, nothing special. Amenities were bottle of red wine, two bottles of water and some fruit.

RC was completely full at about 6:30 although it turned out that 4-5 guys had left coats all over the place which made it seem like all the tables were in use. People coming in had to wait for a table, many just walked out. Some of the staff were moaning amongst themselves that it was so busy.

Food was average - chicken satay, couscous and little prawn filo tarts and some fruit and cheese. Most of the time there was no food left as it was devoured within seconds of appearing. Very poor quality wine and cheap selection of spirits. Lounge was quieter after 7PM.

The lounge was also very busy in the morning with a queue outside - average breakfast but good coffee.

Good location but not particularly good value for money.

Yeah, but what I found was some other thread that turned out to be rolled into this one. I seatched for both "Churchill" and "London" and this thread didn't show up. That Internet brands search function is weird.

Still on my stay last week it was cool to get two 24 hour wifi passes that I could use from my room. As internet access is GBP15/day, that was quite a saving. Should be free throughout, but European hotels generally haven't gotten that message.

I had a one night stay this weekend. I arrived around 9AM on Saturday and was escorted to the 8th Floor Lounge (GOOD SIGN!). I checked in and was able to get into my room immediately (very happy about this). The room faces the park and the morning sun was quite wonderful! Had a quick breakfast shortly before 11AM then headed out. I didn't get back until 10:35PM and found a note from GM welcoming me back under the door and a voice mail from Club Receptionist. She called to let me know that my diamond amenity (wine and fruits) is waiting for me. They didn't deliver it because I had left the DND card on the door. I thought that was a very nice gesture.

When I left this morning at 6:15AM, the Lounge was still closed (it's open at 7AM). Too bad I didn't get to take advantage of the Lounge this time, but look forward to returning next month.

I'm currently staying here. Service seems to have deteriorated a bit. A lounge attendant with a Germanic accent (didn't get her name) made it very clear that wifi is NOT free in the lounge -- it's 5 quid for 1 hour, 15 quid for 24 hours. That's the usual European hotel incredible ripoff.

It appears a few of the lounge hosts are more customer oriented and don't charge, but the one I have gotten over the last 24 hours is a firm believer in the rules. When the passcode didn't work and I had to make a return trip from my room to get a new one, she said she would take the charge off my bill and then didn't. I guess truth is not her high point either, but it could just be this particular attendant.

No diamond amenity delivered, first time that's happened here. BTW, there is a 20 pound charge for emptying the minibar. They should offer an additional fridge as an option in that case, but I guess they don't have them.

I will be in and out of this hotel twice more over the next few weeks, so will get a good idea if this somewhat worse experience is just an anomaly.

Edited to add: Today the iron and board I had requested disappeared. When I called down they explained that they removed them each day (never happened before) because "they only had a limited number." Given that the iron and board together probably cost less than GBP50, that is rather sorry. Again, I am hoping this will turn out to be an anomaly, but that is now getting less likely, alas.

The service issues were HORRIBLE in my stay. I was booked and confirmed into a suite for vacation on passport plus (160% of regular rate) Hyatt points for early August 2008. Upon arrival, I was told that I had a "free upgrade" to 2 connecting room, instead of my SUITE!


The on duty manager told me that they knew they had overbooked the room 24 hours earlier, but no attempt was made to find me alternative accomodations or even contact me to see if I would like to cancel!

Search for the thread (or if the mods can include the link here). It is telling as to how HORRIBLE the staff, right up to the general manager is at this location.

I would NOT stay here EVER! BEWARE!!!

Interestingly I had the opposite experience during my stay last week. I found the concierges on 8 as well as the Lounge attendants to be better than usual! I was there with my 14 year old son, and when we arrived our room wasn't ready (surprise, surprise). Breakfast was already over, but the lounge attendant (first name begins with an E) went out of his way to bring us food (muesli, yogurt, fruit, cookies) and made sure our waiting time was a pleasant one. The Concierges (their names start with I and P) also arranged for me to have a conference call in the Board Room in the back of the lounge free of charge.

The General Manager of this hotel Michael Graves is one of the worst GMs in the Hyatt family. He does not return phone calls or emails and allows his staff to treat guests in a rude manner.

I am truly surprised at how the service level has declined at this hotel, from front desk staff to club staff, there is clearly an attitude shift.

That said, on an FFN or award stay there is good value (especially for those of you who know what I am talking about), and if you must pay, the Stay Certificate make it a good value as well. Beds are extremly comfortable and the AC works very well in the hot summer months.

For people who want free internet, try to get a room facing the SAS Portman Sq radisson hotel. That hotel offers free wifi and sometimes you can hook onto their signal.
