While you may have been wrong, just because they're open doesn't mean they should be open. I worked as a Night Manager during the soft opening of a new hotel. Construction costs had soared, so the owners were rather desperate for revenue. As such, they opened before everything was actually completed.
That plan was rather disastrous. We had no business being open, particularly at the rates we were charging. It was weeks of legitimate complaints by guests about things not working in the rooms.
Certainly, not all new hotels open in that manner. But, I did experience the same thing as a guest. I was the first guest in a room at a newly-opened Las Vegas casino resort. I was the "guinea pig" who discovered that the shower wasn't properly grouted. Of course, I didn't figure that out until I exited the shower and noticed that the carpet by the beds was soaking wet.
Hopefully, The Shay is ready for it's opening.

Agreed in being hopeful that The Shay was/is ready for it's opening.

I'm glad the rates have come back down to earth. When I was checking prospective bookings, base-level rooms were $450 minimum!
Will want to hear what people have to say about their stays but to me this seems like a pretty good choice for LA with the location and nearby dining options.

So, just booked the Premium Suite with balcony for a late December stay for 380$.
pretty good rate I‘d say as an opening offer. Will cancel my Thompson Hollywood, where the rate is a bit less but for a much smaller room. The reviews of the Thompson (not the hotel itself, but surrounding area and loud roof top) drove our decision.

I’m staying here now. They are still working out some kinks but the staff is very friendly and the rooms are small but nice.
Globalist breakfast is at Etta and is good. Area is super walkable with lots of little places to get coffee and food. I will def be staying again.

Anybody stayed in a suite? Gotten a globalist Suite upgrade? Or redeemed a TSU?
Have a 3-night stay later in the month and am trying to figure out the best strategy. Looks like the standard suite is a junior one, and with current sales the price differentials btw a standard room and the premiere suite w/ balcony is only $100 /night.
I've got a bunch of TSUs and wouldn't mind burning one, but not sure I'd want to do it if it only gets me into the junior suite...
Also -- anybody know if the suites have a sofa bed? or just a couch?

One Night Globalist Stay
I stayed one night at the Shay, 10/20.
I've been waiting for this hotel to open for a while since my job LA offices are located in Culver City + the Andaz is horrible. I checked my phone around noon, and found the pleasant surprise that I was upgraded to a premium suite! When i checked in I was told that Globalist get a $25 breakfast credit at the restaurant on the 1st floor. Which i did not try.
My only dislike is that there's a red light camera that constantly flashes for the rooms facing west.
Overall I loved the hotel and location. I'm staying here moving forward.
I stayed in room 318.
