This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

Grand Hyatt Berlin - no upgrade, not even to club floor (which doesn't matter, because those rooms are basically the same anyway). No mention of status when checking in. Key card is coded for Club Floor, though (checked in the elevator). 3 night stay. Quick check online shows Suite available for entire three nights.

It's what I expected at this property. I am not complaining, because I am traveling alone and it doesn't make a difference to me; plus, the property has been accomodating to me in the past, when I wasn't traveling alone.

World of Hyatt will endure tons of undue grief from ill-informed globalists expecting a specialty suite for free. Such nonsense.

Good point, it's actually a "specialty suite". I didn't look closely enough. But I wasn't going to give anyone grief anyway. So calm down.

Checked in earlier today to the Centric Times Square for a week. I have stayed here a number of times but not very recently. The front desk person recognized me, welcomed me back, and immediately said she would see if there was a suite available. She also remembered that I don't like to be too close to the elevator, and found a suite that was further. I'm very impressed!

Grand Executive Suite is probably a higher category than Grand Suite, which I suspect was sold out. However, the guest should have been given a Grand Deluxe King room.

That is a hallmark of their GM, Philip Stamm, who is among the best of managers Hyatt has. When he was at the helm of the Hyatt Regency Boston you would often find him in the lobby personally greeting his guests. This is a guy who totally gets it and values Hyatt elites.

For Berlin, the entry level suite (for Globalist/TSU) upgrades is "Grand Suite King", the next category is "Grand Suite View King" and the third level is the "Grand Executive Suite".

I think a lot of issues in the future will arise from the question whether room categories below the entry level suite should be given to Globalists as well. I have a feeling that hotels will only offer Club Rooms and Entry Level Suites but nothing in between (which I believe is not correct).

That was certainly an issue under GP. Some properties were really good about giving you the best non-suite in the house, others felt they fulfilled their obligations by giving you club access and a basic room next to the ice machine.

Would it kill Hyatt to simply add a notation for each property as to which suites are TSU eligible?

Being "ill-informed" is Hyatt's fault, not our fault.

It's not that difficult... TSU gets you the entry level suite, very few exceptions so no need for making lists.

And also something that has little relevance for this thread. This is for experiences with getting a suite (or not) at check-in.

Never going to happen. There's a reason *wood and Hilton do not do this.

Park Hyatt Canberra
Booked: Park King
Received: Park Balcony King

No difference to Diamond upgrade experience. Website shows availability of a standard room one tier higher, and a standard suite. Not really bothered to argue for a suite.

Poor form. You should argue, but if you don't send an email to Customer Care. The hotel will be pulled up and you'll likely get some GP points.

I guess I got confused because under the previous GM, I would often just get that suite or something higher. They introduced a "suite" category as entry level suite in the meantime which isn't really a suite.

Stayed 4-5 March @ Andaz San Diego and was upgraded to an Andaz Suite. Not bad, especially considering I was staying on points (which also grants free parking now -- a huge benefit in big cities, in my opinion).
