This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

Many hotels have closed floors due to low demand and are not making suites available for booking. That's just a fact.

From personal expedite the HR Downtown Houston is almost exclusively a convention/business person property. It’s not for traveling families, or people who’d want the extra space. Not to mention it’s in the middle of a COVID hotspot.

Just by briefly checking I found Standard Suite availability at 3 other Houston Full Service properties (Hyatt Regency and Centric Brands).

The few that do pay certainly offset the others as Standard Suites are typically 2-3x (sometimes more) the base room cost. And if they didn’t then their Penthouse and Presidential Suites most certainly do. I recall someone posting on here they spent $50,000 a night to stay in a Presidential Suite in Asia, their work of course footed the Bill to meet clients. But the point is the cost of those ultra premium suites significantly outweighs and Globalist Upgrades.

Nowhere I’ve checked for wanting to stay has axed all suites. Everywhere I’ve stayed during the pandemic which there’s more than a dozen has had suites available.

I’m not saying that they haven’t downsized and shut floors down, but the vast majority of properties have suites available. If they didn’t they’d be a very unattractive property with most amenities shut down and breakfast options very small what can they do to lure in Hyatt’s most loyal guests? Suite Upgrades.

So keeping them open, while not ideal, is actually a smart business decision.

Question -

If you’re not pre-upgraded and you do the online check in for the room you booked is it more difficult to get a Suite Upgrade since they’ve specially “COVID cleaned” a room for you.

I've always wondered this as well so I almost never do online in advance check in

Any experience?

My situation -

We booked a room and didn’t contact the hotel at all. We received the online check in email the day of arrival, during the process we noticed no upgrade so we checked availability on Hyatt.com. After checking we noted plenty of Standard Suite availability. So we called the hotel to see if we would be able to receive one as a Globalist Upgrade. They said of course, it’d be no problem at all.

The only reason I called is in case they had to specially “COVID clean” the Junior Suite for us, so we wouldn’t have to awkwardly wait in the lobby for that to be done. Otherwise if we weren’t in the pandemic we would’ve just asked at the front desk during physical check in.

So I think at some properties it may be awkward as they can say they’d need to clean one specially for you. I don’t see a problem if you’ve attempted online check in, then calling as that is also a form of checking in.

I also received a suite on the recent Office-Day rate "stay." I had two previous similar stays, without the suite UPG, and though I certainly didn't need the UPG, it was great to compare the suite at the HR vs.the GH.
