This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

3/13/17 checked in HR Reston VA, given 2-double bed room with corner view, told suite all booked up. This was no different than my previous experience.

Not exactly excited, plus I have seen how SPG and Marriott treats me now (stayed 40 nights at SPG YTD), I think I may just leave Hyatt for good.

Feeling a bit of game playing at the HR Santa Clara, and I'm a repeat guest. No suite availability on the wbesite, but inquired anyways. Not available, they only have 7 suites

I'm fine with that, but booked a king and got a king (though I think they believe stadium view is an upgrade). Balcony rooms showing as available on the app (and I have received them as a diamond). Front desk claims sold out and doesn't know why app continues to sell that room type...

HR Waikiki. Told that because Festival in town (over yesterday) and "sold out Wednesday", they could not even get me a water view room. Except the website shows I could book an oceanfront right now for my three night stay.

I get them not wanting to give up prime rooms if almost full - but lying to me really pisses me off. Don't they think I might check and take screen shots of availability and booking page? Should have stayed on the Big Island and avoided this tourist trap. Have stayed here before when in town, but unlikely ever again.

Has anyone approached WoH with discrepancies? Maybe these hotels should get an out - like instead of avail upgrade, give the guest 10k bonus points. Something meaningful to the guest of they feel they really can't/shouldn't give the upgrade

This place is dead yesterday and today. And sweet jeebus - the dance crap? Wow.

I'm 0 for 2 here in the last week of 2 night stays each. I stay here very very often. I dont beg/ask for upgrades.

On a bright note: my toothpaste shows up daily now. Rock on.

This certainly has me thinking about searching out and reserving the full service properties over a HP or HH in the future.

What about you all? Does the prospect of a comp suite upgrade motivate you to take your chances and most likely spend more to stay at the properties with suites on hopes you score the upgrade? Yes, YMMV and certain times of year are better than others but I think this might be the hook for me.
Better upgrade results does motivate me to adjust my booking habits, but let's just say that I'm not impressed by the WOH "change". If anything, I find WOH so far to be more a case of over-promising and under-delivering on upgrades than I'm getting from Starwood and Marriott as a Platinum with Starwood and Marriott.

Can you share with us how many stays you had with Hyatt since March 1 and what your experiences were?

Hyatt has 698 properties and we have only very few data points here - so far far far away from being able to come to any conclusion whether WoH is top of flop.

Andaz Xintiandi, Shanghai

Just checked in today (slight early check-in at 1:00pm) for a two-night stay, and was proactively upgraded by the hotel to a suite. However, they mentioned that they had to do some minor repairs to the bathroom in the afternoon.

I asked the attendant to put me into an XL room instead (honestly, I prefer the XL room over the suite), and they happily agreed.

I am talking about some bookings of Globalists that have had stays this month. Given how most of these reviewed stays were for one-night bookings, can't say I'm thrilled by the under-delivering relative to what I've seen Starwood/Marriott Platinums getting on one-night stays in some of these same cities.

sadly. I'd rather have the toothpaste. No point in a huge room biz traveling. Unless it's the prez suite here at HRSC which I've got a few times. And that's only cool cause it has a washer and dryer. Big rooms are wasteful for my biz travel needs. Obviously my minimalism isn't everyone's cup of tea.

No, at the properties I have booked so far this year, I can't even use DSUs. Paying more for the hope of an upgrade is a fool's gambit.

My first Starwood stay of the year was just completed and I got a double upgrade to a huge beachfront suite for a 5 day stay. This as a lowly Gold.

I'm like you, if I am on business, I don't care if I get a big room. It only matters to me for leisure travel.

I checked in to WEHO Andaz on 3/1, booked on P&C, an Andaz Queen, received an Andaz Queen on the Penthouse floor -1411. NOTE - the Penthouse floor rooms are smaller because it lacks the additional bump out balcony area. Also, the Bump out from the 12th floor blocks the view of Sunset Blvd activity. I've stayed at this property about 10 times and this was my first "downgrade" to Penthouse floor. I requested a room change my 2nd night. Yay, for Globalists!
