I think you posted in the wrong thread. this one is for confirmed upgrades using the TSU.
Your post would be better placed here, for upgrades upon check-in:

I was trying to apply my TSU to a P+C reservation but the standard suite availability for some reason disappeared while I was on the phone with the WoH concierge.

It was still available on the first 2 days of my stay though and the rep said that he's able to split my reservation into 2 parts (keeping the same confirmation number) and secure the suite on the first 2 days for now. I see that the TSU was deducted from my account and the reservation shows up as 2 "icons" in the app although the room description for both remains as standard king which I will have to call to check if there are any issues with that.

Didn't know this is possible. Curious if this i.e. getting the suite upgrade for partial of your stay is something that can be requested as standard practice?

no problem, they even blocked the room for me in February and asked to call back once the TSU's have been deposited ^
Always great experiences at GH Tampa Bay

I am a regular guest at this hotel and mostly got the Premier Suite, once the VIP Suite. Until now, the Premier Suite was the standard suite, others premium suites.
When wanting to book the Premier Suite for my next stay, I was advised by my MHC that the are sold out, but have the option for the Casita Suites or an Executive Suite.
I searched the hotel website and then noticed, that EVERY SINGLE SUITE is classified as a "Standard Suite". This is extremely generous and proves once again, that the GH Tampa Bay is one of my favorite hotels.
This time, I opted for the Casita Suite.

I would like to apply a TSU to an upcoming reservation. There's a possibility that I may need to cancel it later, but there's suite availability now that I'd like to confirm.

I assume I would get the TSU back if I cancel the reservation? Do I need to call in or does it happen automatically?

Suite upgrade changes. Now expire at end of status

Apparently now dsu are good until Feb 2020 regardless of when you earn this year. Seems like Hyatt is continuing to make positive changes people want. Not sure what people really have to complain about still with regards to the program. There are always things we could want, but on balance, most issues have been improved i would say.

I haven't seen that news yet and couldn't verify with some quick searches, but I trust you have a source and that is indeed overall good news for all us. (Even if I think the 'earning them as late as possible' was always a lame strategy and the 1 year expiration from earning was always a dramatic complaint.)

Complainers will still complain though, or, from the increasing quietness of the Hyatt boards, continue to disappear.

You wrote "apparently". What makes this welcome change "apparent"?

If this is really true, then I'm very glad for the change, but even more glad that Hyatt actually listens to their customers. I've personally asked for this change, at least 40 times. I'm sure other frequent guests have asked as well. It was the single biggest shortcoming of the new World Of Hyatt program, and a lose-lose situation for supplier (Hyatt) and guess alike. Hyatt lost many dozens of room nights from people who delayed qualifying so as to extend the benefits. Well, "apparently" they've now fixed this glaring omission. I'd love to find out more about "apparently", and to be able to convert the word "apparently" into "actually".

Please let me reconfirm my understanding of what you are saying...if we earn a TSU today (01.Jun.2018), we have 20 months to use this TSU?

If this is all true, now you do 'extend' the time to use the benefits by earning earlier, which I do agree is a good thing for both Hyatt and the customer.

PRESS RELEASE

Hi Mark,

As the World of Hyatt team continues listening to members, I wanted to share a heads up about two announcements we’ll be making tomorrow in direct response to member feedback. Both announcements are under embargo until tomorrow, June 1, at 9:00am CT/ 10:00am ET.

Elite Tier Award Validity Changes

World of Hyatt is extending the validity period for suite upgrade awards that members earn when they satisfy tier qualifying night or Base Point earning requirements within a calendar year, as well as for the 4 Club Lounge access awards that Explorists earn per year. For 2018 and beyond these awards will be valid through the member’s tier expiration date at the time they are earned, as opposed to 365 days. This means members’ awards earned in 2018 will expire February 29, 2020.

Upon achieving Lifetime Globalist status, members will receive four suite upgrade awards valid through the remainder of that year plus 14 months. Annually, Lifetime Globalists will receive four suite upgrade awards on or around March 1 valid for the remainder of that year plus 14 months. In addition, Lifetime Globalists who stay 60 qualifying nights or earn 100,000 Base Points in a calendar year will receive four additional suite upgrade awards that are valid for the remainder of the year they are earned plus 14 months.

Members will be able to see the extended expiration period on their 2018 awards reflected in their World of Hyatt account on June 1, 2018. These changes will also be reflected in the award program terms. Changes to the full program terms and Frequently Asked Questions will be updated shortly.

World of Hyatt was built around continuously listening to our members, and we heard a desire for more flexibility when it comes to award benefits. That’s why earlier this year we rolled out award nights counting toward tier status and extending the expiration period on free night awards, and now members will have even more flexibility when it comes to enjoying their well-earned rewards.

.
This seems very nice, (giving about 2 years to use lifetime based TSUs)! I only hope there is a lifetime status this generous in 8-10 years when I may finally hit it.

Finally! This is exactly what I (and quite a few were waiting for.
That means no need to keep count on when one hits the 55 nights to time out the TSU expiration.
