I tried searching for the answer but I couldn't narrow the search enough, so I apologize if this has been covered at length before.

Thanks!

Only DSUs can be used on C&P AFAIR.

Next time try searching Google, which brings up lots of results like this:

One question I’m often asked is whether you can use Gold Passport points to upgrade a Points + Cash booking to a suite or club room. The answer to that, unfortunately, is no. Diamond members can use Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards to upgrade to a suite on a Points + Cash booking, but no one can use points to upgrade such a booking.

No, but the PH NY was doing points+cash for suite bookings last year. I think that has since ended and it was an isolated case.

This has probably already been discussed on this thread, but it appears that C&P for Level 7 hotels at 15K + $300 is not a good deal relative to a Level 6 at 12.5K + 150 and that you are better off just using points for the Level 7 or going with the Level 6 C&P unless the Level 7 is a significant amount higher in price. I have never used C&P before but was looking at it potentially for one of my upcoming NYC trips and it just seems if you are using C&P you are better off with Andaz Fifth and if you want to stay at Park Hyatt, its more effective to use the straight points redemption (I assume I could add the caveat assuming you have the points to do so).

C&P at cat 7 might mean lesser pt value than a pure pt redemption, but there are the advantages of night/stay credit and the ability to use a DSU. The DSU in particular can be significant when staying 6 or 7 nights.

Thanks, I did not think about that aspect of C&P versus points.

That's what swayed me to use C&P for PH NY.

A few simple questions to Hyatt users:

1. Say I booked 2 seperate reservations (P&C and cash only) making a total of 7 days, can the hyatt agent simply stick them together and let me use a DSU?

2. Is it still possible to book in points without having enough? --> I have enough to book for 3 nights but with the reservations coming right before the stay in question, I'd be able to pay for 6 nights... Can I talk that through with the agent? (the one I contacted said no, even after I insisted and she consulter a supervisor...)

Thanks !! :)

Yes.

I'm not sure... but I'm willing to bet that they wouldn't let you be in such a negative balance. Haven't tried anything like it, though.

I was able to do this in the past, but have not found any agents in recent times that would let me do the same. The best they would do is allow me to run a negative balance of up to -1000 points.

has anyone had much luck in asking a property to switch an existing points reservation to P&C? I have an upcoming stay at the HP Downtown Austin and when i called they just transferred me to HGP. If you have had success can you please share your method and what you told the hotel? Thanks!

Biggie Fries Apr 9, 2015 6:32 pm

Sure. Just do it through Hyatt Gold Passport. That's why they transferred you there. I'm not saying that the hotel can't do it ... I'm just saying that the HGP folks can and will. Did this last month no sweat.

They could do it if P+C inventory still exists, technically cancelling the award reservation and making a new P+C one, but not if it doesn't. P+C availability is different from award availability, and that is controlled by the hotel. Only the hotel itself could agree to open up additional P+C availability to allow the switch.

Exactly my point. There is no PC availability and I want to ask the hotel to open up some availability for me. Not sure if this has been done before and is worth a shot or not. Would appreciate any advice you can give.
