I was Gold status GP. I went into the Hyatt web site that said, "permanent Diamond Status as long as you have the card." It was very early on the morning of the "mistake." I applied and was instantly approved. The card is in the mail. Has not yet arrived.
I am still Gold status on the Hyatt website. Chase website says I am Platinum.
What should I do to get the Diamond status I was promised by the Hyatt website?

I feel the same way. As someone who travels mostly on their own dime, and has maintained Diamond for a long time, and has used the credit card to the tune of a lot of money, I think I just can't justify my so called loyalty anymore. Didn't get any 25 or 50 unique hotels bonus, even though by my count we've done over 90, many international. Didn't get any "we like you as a CC user, so here are some more points," probably because we actually used the card, getting crappier suites or suites no longer available when we want them, probably because of the dilution of the program, and now this.
10 - 15 grand out of pocket to maintain diamond every year, staying at out of the way hyatts when better options are available. While I understand that Hyatt may be slightly "better" than other programs these days, I have the sense like some others that this promotion was just another incident of special sauce that was meant to be private (what a silly notion in this age) and that word got out. I am not using the credit card or any chase-related product, just to see what happens in the next few months . . .
Yeah. I'm happy for the folks who literally got something for nothing, but for those of us who have consistently given something (and by that, I mean a lot) and have gotten less and less in return, it's getting really hard to justify what we spend . . .
Yeah...Over 55 nights this year and over 10k in spend, all on my own dime, plus having the card from.inception...and what did hyatt give me? a devaluation.

What should I do to get the "permanent Diamond status" shown on the Hyatt/Chase website?

I still have the Email in my inbox. Should I or can I apply today?
I may buy a house in next 6 month. I am not sure if I should apply more CC at this point.

But as a current cardholder, when I read posts about those who piggybacked and still potentially could get it...

I really don't think Hyatt will give this to anyone other than those that:
- Were sent the targeted email
AND
- Applied for the card BEFORE the email announcing the error was sent
Why would they?!
I think that is a very small population.

Give it to everyone who applied...
...then change top tier from Diamond to another name "Red Diamond" with the same qualification requirements. Then you have a 4 tiers:
Platinum (save qualifications as always and same benefits)
Diamond (no qualifications necessary for Credit Card Holders) - benefits devalued to be the same as Platinum, plus these accounts will be marked as people that hold Hyatt to a mistake, therefore they will also be held to any mistake they make. Accidentally book the wrong night on a non-canellable reservation - too bad, no wavers/no favors. Additionally these members will be offered the least desirable room available at time of check-in, no check-in before the guaranteed check-in time of the day, etc.
Red Diamond (same qualification as current Diamond Status and same benefits)
Basically I'm saying Hyatt treat people really well at all levels and I think they have one of the best programs and products - can't we ever cut any corporation a break, we certainly always seem to ask for exceptions for us.

i'm guessing as they chase is considering apps on a case by case status, only people who were actually targeted and are already diamond will get this. certainly i'm jealous if they decided not to requalify, but i'm sure that in any case this certainly isn't a significant number of people that got the offer. if you missed it/or were not eligible I guess it just the same thing as missing a mistake fare. LOL

dmodemd, I'll freely admit that I'm jealous; I'd LOVE to not have to make frivolous trips and the occasional mattress run every year just to renew status with Hyatt and SPG.
Between the two chains, I need to do a minimum of 48 one night stays/yr on my dime ... I get 2 stay credits/yr with SPG AmEx. I need to do 35-45 one night stays/yr so being able to cut out 3-13 one night stays/yr would be nice. I still have another 5 years before I hit SPG LT Plat; once I do that, I won't need to do frivolous trips/mattress runs.
Why do I want top status with multiple chains? Because I'm an airline pilot so while my company paid stays don't count toward status, most hotels (except Hilton) extend lounge access to me for being top tier. I've already got Marriott LT Gold (close to LT Plat) so I don't need to chase Marriott status since there's not much additional benefit for me. I'm simply working on accumulating MR points through the credit card.
As far as the actual number of people who will be offered Diamond for as long as they have the credit card, the number could be anywhere from a handful to somewhere in the low thousands. There are many people who read FT and travel blogger websites without posting so it's hard to say how many people read about this. And then there are people who never read FT and blogs who may have applied for the credit card. I don't think we'll ever have an accurate number of how many people got the email and applied for the card.
As painful as this is for me to say, congratulations to everyone that got the offer and took advantage of it. I'm jealous of you.

This is how I feel in a way. Over 150+ nights this year all on my own dime and absolutely nothing for the loyalty. People have posted asking why I don't "run"? Because I am too close to lifetime Diamond through EARNING it (and no credit card either). Frustrating and somewhat of a slap in the face to those of us who follow the rules and show our loyalty to Hyatt.
The credit card offering Diamond doesn't bother me in the least bit. Specific Diamonds were targeted and rewarded. My goal in the long term with the Hyatt Gold Passport program is to spend enough to achieve Lifetime Diamond. There is no doubt I'll be towing the line, and staying 50+ nights per year for the next ten years. The more our family stays at Hyatt, the more benefits we reap. The carrot is indeed the Lifetime Diamond status and no less.

Sorry, but chasing Lifetime Diamond status when being not even close is delusional....
There is only one way that loyalty programs have been going, and that's down. Enough examples already where "lifetime" has been clearly shown to mean something quite different...

By the time the season comes to reap this carrot... it's gonna be foul!
I personally would not gamble on how the GP Program (or any program for that matter) looks in 5-10 years from now and most certainly I would not place a bet of 6-digit spending on such scheme.
