I've read some of the thread but just want to get clarification. I'm thinking on doing the challenge for 2 reasons:

1) I'm staying at the PH Sydney for 3 nights (award stay) at the beginning of April so the free breakfast would be a huge plus. I'm also staying at the GH Istanbul at the end of June so the suite upgrades and breakfast then would also be a big plus for that booking as well

2) I didn't really commit to any program last year and ended up mid-tier everywhere so want to commit to something this year (and b/c of reason #1 Hyatt is appealing to commit to)

The question I have is with regards to showing them a statement. I have Marriott Gold (via being a UA 1k and Premier Plat next year) and I have Hilton Diamond (but soon to drop to Gold - should be Silver but got the Milepoint thing to maintain Gold). I've stayed a handful of times at each property in the past 12 months but most of it was primarily in the first quarter of 2013 though I have one at a Hilton and Marriott in November. Is that still sufficient as long as it shows a couple of stays and reflects the Gold status to satisfy the challenge requirements?

You should be fine. All that is typically needed is status + 1 stay in the past 12 months.

I'm in the same boat...not sure if there will be another one. Thoughts? Also if I'm a diamond but my girlfriend (plat) books an award reservation, would we be able to get diamond benefits (I'd be staying with her)? Not sure who should do the challenge/book the awards.

Based on the past extensions, does anyone have an idea when Hyatt would be announcing an extension of the April 30, 2014 date? I have stays in June onward and would rather wait until June to start the challenge (to get the 2/29/16 expiration) but would begin the challenge by 4/30 if the program is not going to be renewed.

Many thanks.

I only recently signed up for Gold Passport and have no status, no stays and no points. However, I do have a lot of Chase UR points that can convert to Hyatt points. I'd like to stay 4 nights on points at Andaz Maui for late March 2014. Free breakfast and internet and a room upgrade would be AWESOME. I see the Diamond Challenge is for 60 days only; does that mean that I should wait until the end of January before signing up for the challenge? Can I book the stay now (to ensure availability)? I want to be clear that I have no intention of completing the challenge.
I have IHG plantinum, SPG Gold (about the expire), Hilton Gold, all of which came from credit card deals although I do have stays with chain in the past year.

Similar situation ... substitute Paris Hyatt Vendome for Andaz Maui. Anyhow, just became Hilton Gold via Amex Platinum; sent screenshot to Hyatt GP and received same day response, "No problem, you are qualified, tell us when you want to start." (My screenshot did show an upcoming [real] Hilton reservation, but no past stays.) So I think this should go down fine for you. Btw, status is as of time of stay, so book as soon as you can, even if you are not yet on trial.

Now for my question to the board: I do have a few other Hyatt nights in the same frame and am thinking about trying to actually fulfill the trial (I figure no real loss either way), but it is going to be tight and I will need all 60 days. I did get same day response on last e-mail to Hyatt GP, but do you think that one-day-ahead e-mail announcing plans to start is cutting it too close? Anyone with any recent experience on this? Thanks in advance ....

Does anyone know if points and cash nights will count towards the 12 night requirement for the diamond challenge? It seems implied but I have not seen it confirmed.

It hasn't been confirmed, so they might not count for a challenge.... same as for the MLife nights that do count for everything else but the challenge. Time will tell when they are actually offered next week....

Straight from the horse's mouth, via MilePoint.

The MyElite rate and the Points + Cash option will count towards the Diamond trial offers

I'm still waiting to hear from Hyatt regarding status match. I emailed Friday morning and haven't heard anything from them yet. I really wanted to get the status match or at least the Diamond Trial before I booked my stay for Andaz Maui in late March. I suppose I'll have to wait until Monday to hear from them, but Monday is January 6, which is the last day for current award redemptions before devaluation kicks in. I suspect that a large number of members will book a lot of high end hotels over the weekend and on Monday, and my concern is that there will be no more availability for Andaz Maui by the they get back to me.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I have no Hyatt status and no points, but I have a good stash of Chase UR points. I'm worried if I book now, Hyatt will be less inclined to match my status or give me the Diamond Challenge because I've already committed-- in my email to them, I said that I'm on the fence about Andaz, and a match could sway me toward Hyatt and away from other brands.

Is Hyatt more or less likely to match status if I have an award stay already lined up?

I received a status match with only a two night award stay and no paid stays lined up at the time (though I did end up completing the challenge)

Are you planning to complete your trial prior to your stay late March? You have 60 days to complete your challenge once your Challenge is accepted and registered. Monday will not give you Diamond benefits for your stay late March.

Already booked stays including reward stays will not compel Hyatt to offer you a Challenge anymore than if you haven't booked any reservations. What matters is an acceptable competing hotel elite status and at least one stay within the past year under that status.

If you are wanting Diamond Status for your stay late March, then I would wait until the entire reservation is within 60 days before enacting the Diamond Challenge, just to be safe. Unless you complete the challenge prior to your stay, then you will have status until February 28, 2015.

I have no travel plans prior to late March, which is when I will stay at Andaz Maui.

Hyatt replied to my email and offered me the Diamond Trial. They asked if I accept the terms of the offer, and I replied yes, BUT asked if it could start on March 19. Another poster above mentioned that Hyatt asked when he/she wanted to start the trial, so I figured that I would be able to specify the date. Assuming they grant my request to start in March, will I have any comfirmation of participating in the Diamond Trial prior to that date? I mean, when I log in, will I see a notification? Or do I just have to wait until that date to see status changed to Diamond?

I assume that you've received confirmation from HGP authorizing a delayed Challenge. I would check onto your account website and if your status has changed to Diamond prior to the desired start date, I would contact HGP immediately.

Hyatt replied to me, and asked me to email them one day before I want to start the challenge. I will probably email them 1 week beforehand, just to be safe. Hopefully I remember!
