I can't verify its accuracy but someone on slickdeals has posted this apparent response to an email sent to LHW:

Unfortunately, we've had to suspend the sale due to overwhelming demand.
Although we were aware of the traffic volume and made preparations ahead
of time to accommodate it, the volume of traffic nonetheless outstripped
our enhanced capacity. In lieu of the online process, we will be running
an alternative email based sale shortly, as most of the inventory is
still unsold.

You should be receiving an email from us shortly describing the
specifics, but the details you've provided in terms of your intentions
are exactly what we are going to be asking of our consumers. With this
in mind, I'll try to get your request into the queue.

With sincere apologies for your inconvenience,

I wonder if this is this the sort of thing Randy Petersen would be interested in?

I'm a member. I did not get a room...

Also, is anyone else a Misleaders Club member? What a joke of a promotion. They would have been better off offering every member who stayed with them in the last 1-2 years a free night in order to celebrate their anniversary.

Any marketing fool will tell you it's easier to sell to existing clients. Not to mention, it's much harder to win back a client you lost than to acquire a new one.

Scam it is/was

Maybe we need to spread a little bad publicity somehow on these guys

at least if we can get the word out that this was a scam; it might indicate to others not to trust them on normal bookings.. which would be sweet revenge

About 20 minutes later than the end, and that's the same message I'm getting as well.

Ditto to what idealflyer posted above about it making more marketing sense to offer something to active LC members than doing something to piss them off...

Very poor amateurish marketing.

Been a member for three years or so (although have not booked through LHW.com for quite a while). I seriously doubt anybody managed to get a booking through, the odds of the five or so pages to process and load for a booking to complete is surely many times over a million to one!

I also got the "don't be discouraged" page at first, then multiple "runtime error"s once i actually got in. Definitely not a happy camper here.

time to update the 'your hotel is a bad hotel' powerpoint from years ago from the phoenix doubletree.... somone can come up with a 'leading hotels' is a bad hotels company...

but my other screen says its 'still processing'...although the new one says

Thank you for participating in Leading Hotels' epic USD 19.28 Sale!

We have now sold out of the 6,000 originally available room nights, concluding our 80th anniversary promotion. Congratulations to the more than 3,000 lucky individuals who were able to secure a reservation as part of this offer.

We look forward to bringing you similar online offers in the future, and greatly appreciate your interest in experiencing The Leading Hotels of the World.

Just not as lucky as the rest of you, 102 minutes, and all I've ever seen is the message:

Sorry! Due to the overwhelming number of consumers currently trying to access this promotion, your request is being delayed momentarily. Please be patient, don’t get discouraged, and retry in a few seconds by clicking here, or by going back to http://www.lhw.com/1928

Just to get to the next page, before being kicked out would at least feel like progress...or the message to buy 3 for 4, etc.

No one got a room. Them saying they sold 6000 rooms is a lie:

We have indeed experienced technical difficulties this morning due to the overwhelming number of individuals who visited the site. Despite our efforts to carefully manage and prepare for this worldwide promotion, the traffic exceeded our expectations.

Please accept our sincere apologies. You will be receiving another opportunity to participate in this offer shortly. In the meantime, please rest assured that we will not be saving your email address in our database for any further solicitations.

Not the most well run promo. Whoever was in charge of this should be canned, not just because it upset a lot of people who wanted to try LHW out, but also because it has taken their main booking website completely out of business.

write away

I just sent an email to Claudia and Ani at lhw. I encourage others to do the same. They better make good on this sale, or their future marketing communication will have no validity.

What a waste of a morning.
