This is effectively the Big Short (Big Short is Credit Default Swaps, this is masks) https://www.hkcnews.com/article/2681...#32617;-26818/

Buying 200k masks in one trade on Lockhart Road is possible.

Any risk that anyone is re-packaging and re-selling used masks? Is that even a possibility?

I'd also worry about counterfeit masks that aren't as protective as they should be.

I was going to send some masks to HK later this week but saw this at usps.com. got a quote from Fedex for 3 pound box to HK from LA, it was $313.

Wow, this truly represents everything that is wrong with HK hoarding & reselling culture.

Ah, I think it's more a reflection of the memories some may have experienced or heard stories of having to endure famines on the Mainland in their recent history; I'm assuming many HK people were escaping some of the...er..."cultural volatility" during this period. This wouldn't be unlike, say, in America where one's Grandparents had endured the Great Depression and remained frugal irrespective of however affluent they had become afterwards.

While I've never experienced it personally, I'll take some the Poster's above's observation that this hoarding would likely happen in the USA should there be an outbreak.

The reselling culture is by no means limited to virus outbreaks though -- it happens in nearly every sector including mobile phones, sneakers and even store coupons. These are more or less harmless (even though I personally think there should be regulations on this type of thing) but when it is done on items like face masks and hand sanitiser, you'll have a serious issue. Unsurprisingly HK's useless government has shown little to no response in dealing with it.

In sum, the message is: mask supply at the pharmacies is definitely increasing, but prices remain very high.

Supermarket shelves, though, remain bare of some of the basics.

There’re certainly masks for cash. Roughly at what on.cc’s saying above

And alcohol rub too

It looks like Amazon US is no longer setting delivery dates for shipments to Hong Kong. Either no estimated delivery date is shown or "December 31" is shown.

Lotpost says shipments from the U.S. are taking 4-5 days longer, and due to increased demand they've suspended registration of new customers.

HKTV has doubled to HK$800 the minimum order for free shipping.
