If you are in doubt, go to check in downstairs, they will acknowledge you as gold and the porter(s) will escort you up there.

If the lounge floor is not restricted by keycards, how do they stop free loaders from going up there?

I would prefer not to check in at the 2nd floor as I believe it would be very busy and there would be many impatient people.

As I said, there are staff on the desk at the entrance to the lounge who will learn to identify you by sight, esp. if Gold or Diamond, but if they fail to recognise you they might ask you to show your room key to confirm that you are not a "free loader"

Glad the GM has replied you. I think he means that all the exec rooms are taken, and it sounds like you'll not get an exec room, but lounge access will still be given. Deluxe rooms and exec rooms aren't not that much different anyway.

They do a great job stopping freeloaders, or people who found the lounge while wandering around the hotel. They do seem to recognize people very well! And if they are not sure, they will ask for your room number. Have seen this too many times. I stayed at this hotel quite a lot this year, and since my first checkin I have not been asked for my room number. They remember!

I think I said 33rd floor for the lounge. Oops, I think I was wrong... but just hit the top button. 33rd floor is the exec lounge floor for Hilton KL maybe? Regardless, you should easily spot the sign in the lift showing you which button to press for the lounge.

Try not to check in at the main lobby. The service quality is worlds apart. I had a few problems with the staff there. Too slow... too grumpy... too unwilling to do anything for a guest. But that's just my experience!

Also, don't forget the cookies!

What do they do to free loaders at this hotel?

It is ok that I do not get an executive room on this occasion. I will try to make diamond next year so there will be many chances to stay at this property again.

I would also like to visit Hilton KL as well.

Had a great stay here 8 months ago and I will be back. Great rooms and a wonderful lounge with great drinks and food.

Investor tiger, are you currently staying in the doubletree kl? Missed your reply, sorry for the delayed response. What they do to freeloaders? Most people with no lounge access get stopped at the entrance. Staff proactively ask for room number. When told the prices of items in the lounge, most people went straight back to one of the six lifts and run away lol. I think they would try and make freeloaders pay for what they have consumed.

All the best in attaining your Diamond vip membership.

Definitely stay at the hilton kl if you find yourself in kuala lumpur again. Great hotel.

Hi, I just came back from Double Tree KL. Upgraded to King Executive room from twin bed room booking as HH Gold member. Lounge is outstanding. Will share a more detailed review tomorrow after having a rest.

This is a review of a recent stay at Double Tree Kuala Lumpur. We arrived at the LCCT terminal in the afternoon and bought taxi coupons from the arrival hall. It costs 83.40RM to get to the Double Tree in a budget taxi from the LCCT.

We checked in at the Executive Lounge on the highest floor of the hotel. Check in was smooth and we were given 2 cookies at the counter plus a list of benefits for Gold members. There is a 300RM deposit per day that is requested by the hotel. The room is not very spacious but I liked the contemporary design of the rooms. Bathroom is small but adequate amenities are provided.

We put down our bags and proceeded to the lounge for food and drinks. This hotel has a great lounge with reasonably good service. Hot items served included cuttlefish ball, fried chicken and lamb satay which was delectable. Breakfast spread is pretty good and the pastries are excellent. The lounge sofas are really comfortable and you can easily sit there for one or two hours and have a nice chat with a friend or your loved ones. I find this lounge to be really good and I really enjoyed it.

We received a nice big fruit platter together with a piece of kway lapis(layered cake) when we went back to the room. The cake is absolutely delicious and I believe this is a welcome amenity for elite members. Service is exemplary and we received a courtesy phone call from the staff on both days asking if there was anything they could do for us and if everything was ok. Housekeeping staff are also very polite and would greet us on the hallways whenever we encountered them. The standard of housekeeping is also excellent and bath amenties and towels are replaced with a full set.

We are going there again in October, probably taking a flight to KLIA instead of LCCT which is a better experience.

Glad that you had an enjoyable time in the DoubleTree KL. Great value for your HH points no doubt?

Yeah, the rooms aren't as big as the ones they have in Hilton KL. The basic room in Hilton KL is already more spacious than an exec/deluxe room in DTKL. Never really enjoyed the limiting size of the rooms in DTKL but then the property is located on a prime area of the city.

Thanks a lot for your kind concern. I appreciate it very much. Is collecting 300RM per day a common practice in KL hotels? I do find that a tad excessive. How many days do they usually take to release the hold after checkout from the hotel?

The train system there isn't really good and I would like to advise fellow FTs that taking the bus to KL sentral might not be a good option with luggage. The LRT/train networks are owned by different companies and are not connected. Taking a train from KL Sentral to Ampang Park LRT requires a transfer which is quite a walk from one platform to another. Not advisable with luggage. Better option is to take a bus to KL Sentral and then taking a cab to Double Tree. Always buy cab coupons from the designated taxi counters.

Interesting to see a security guard stationed on the bridge leading to DT KL and another one outside Ampang Park Mall.

Perhaps I will try the Hilton KL on my next visit to KL in October.

Is there any real advantage to an executive room over a standard king?

The standard king is coming in at around £59
The king executive is coming in at around £80
Both advance rates.

Or 10k points + ??? which isn't worth it due to the cheap rates.

After the second night, got a flight to HKG just after 9am so will probably leave at 6am or so so breakfast may be missed here.

Booking an executive room should give you access to the Executive Lounge, meaning free food and drink (inc. beer/wine/spirits, which relatively speaking are expensive in Malaysia outside of Langkawi) and free internet access.

Depending on how much time you intend to spend there (and how much you drink), you will have to weigh up whether it's worth the extra £21. If you've got an early start, I'd go for the cheaper option personally.

I still think 10k (no cash - just 10k) is a steal for a night here, especially with Gold or Diamond status as upgrades are extremely likely and the Executive Lounge is a fine location with lovely staff and a great food/drink selection. I will shortly be booking up a number of stays here for next February.

Anyone have any idea on time/cost for a taxi from the DT to the JW Marriott (need to burn some mega bonus certs). Ideally would want a minivan/SUV type taxi, as we will have lots of luggage (2 adults, 2 kids, 4 cases).
