Wow..it is finally open after years of delays. Good to have a HH property back in Barbados. I really didn't mind the old one. Question..did they at least keep that old lighthouse tower and cannons?

Looking to take the family somewhere tropical on a GLON stay in the late fall/early winter, look forward to any trip reports (or suggestions for anything Carribbean/Beachfront) - something similar to the Beaches Resorts (we loved the property, but not the light wallet I carried home). Was this good in it's day or anyone planning on visiting there in the next few months?

I've got a GLONP award stay set up for next February. The new property looks very nice from the photos I have seen, but it is a high rise. It will be a good addition.

New Barbados Hilton Trip Report- Very Nice!!

My Family and I had the pleasure of christening one of the rooms at the newly opened Barbados Hilton last week. We checked in just two days after the official opening and had a 3 night stay. As a Diamond I was interested to see what kind of treatment we would receive.
At the outset I must say that we were very impressed with the all the staff. Everyone we came into contact with seemed to be very upbeat, sincerely friendly, and genuinely eager to please. Of course, they had just had gotten done with training and it appeared that the place was crawling with the Hilton corporate SWAT team. Since most everyone was new to their job and to this hotel there are still a lot of growing pains, for example, the executive lounge was still not up and running (they say it will be open starting this week) and from what I saw about half of the hotel rooms are still in the process of being outfitted and readied.
The exterior of the hotel is not particularly outstanding, just two rectangular buildings. The whole reception area is a large breezeway perched above the two beautiful pools (more on them later) with the beach in the background. All of the halls leading to the restaurants, meeting rooms, etc are also basically covered walkways. So with the ocean breezes blowing and the deep blue waters glimmering in the background you get in a tropical mood real quick.
There are two wings- Fort Tower to the right and Lighthouse Tower to the left. All rooms have practically floor-to-ceiling glass on the exterior wall and their own balcony. The Fort Tower has a central hall with rooms on both sides. Rooms on the left side overlook the Ocean; those on the right side look out on Carlisle Bay with Bridgetown in the background. The Lighthouse Tower, however, only has rooms overlooking the Ocean. On the left side of the corridor are large windows so you can enjoy the view of the Bay as you walk to your room. The rooms on the end of each floor are suites and have a balcony on a 45 degree angle on the corner.
I could have had a suite but since the little Notenuts were with us we needed a room with 2 beds. The rooms are painted in muted greens and yellows, have crown molding all around, and have ceramic tile floors with area rugs surrounding the bed area. The decoration is understated, but there are accent pieces of pottery around from Earthworks, a local Bajan pottery workshop. The counters are granite and the bathroom has a nice touch: A full bathtub PLUS a walk-in shower! There is an honors bar which we asked to have emptied so we could use it for our own juices, sodas, etc, and our request was complied with. Shortly after settling in we received a complementary fifth of Extra Old Mt. Gay rum baring a special label commemorating the opening of the hotel and a small rum cake.
As compensation for the lack of access to the Executive lounge we were comped the full breakfast buffet every morning at the Lighthouse Terrace, and it was very complete. Besides the typical trays of sliced meats and cheesses, all the other western style breakfast items, there are bowls of tropical fruits and local specialities (fried flying fish, Bajan fish cakes, and sweet bread). The price for the breakfast buffet is US $20 and the lunch buffet (which is also first rate) is approx US $30. There is another restaurant, Careenage Bar & Grille, for dinner only. The entrees are in the range of US $ 35-60, and it is supposed to be by reservation only.
There is wifi available in the public areas , but to connect to the internet in your room is US $14.95 a day .
There are two large pools on two different levels a flight of stairs down from the reception area. One flows into a waterfall and the other has a hot tub that is reached by an arched wooden bridge that goes over the lower pool. There is a complementary aerobics class at the pool every day. And from the pool area it is literally 20 steps to the beach, which is divided into 3 small coves. Sand has been trucked in and it is quite nice except at low tide when you will stumble on some rocks (large pieces of coral) which is uncomfortable.
Near the pool is “Kidz Paradise” which is an activity center especially geared for toddlers and Grade Schoolers (no extra fee). There were 3 counselors there at all times during the day (9 to 6 if I remember correctly). They were very enthusiastic and kept my 7 year old so busy he didn’t want to go see the island with the rest of us.
There is an exercise room on the 6th floor looking out on the bay that encompasses the equivalent of 3 hotel rooms, filled with jogging and elliptical machines, Cencor weight machines, free weights, very nice.
So although we were in the middle of the opening with all of its steep learning curve, we were still very impressed with this property and enjoyed it, as well as the island in general, immensely and would recommend it highly!

16 exclamation points including the title and your signature line? Is the period key broken on your keyboard? You should really consider decaf...(just kidding; I like your enthusiasm).

How can I get an award reservation at Barbados Hilton?

Would like to go for three nights in January or February. I am gold. Everything shows sold out. Also shows six night minimum which I tried and could not book either.

Any ideas from the HH experts?

Thanks, Marlin

Oh I forgot to tell you, the lowest rate is $715! Even for high season Caribbean, that seems insane.

Call 1-800-hhonors. I had the same experience. They were able to book me for six nights in March. (I am Gold which may mean little.)
