We were just in Bath today, driven to Salisbury, Stonehenge and Bath driven by a driver recommended by the concierge at The Trafalgar. Absolutely lovely town, although we didn't spot the Hilton. The water from the spa is ghastly, like from a rusty old tap. We could oould only swallow a mouthful each. Our driver had written the Stonehenge guidebook, which we bought and had him sign. Salisbury is enchanting, too. If Walt Disney created a pretend England, it would be Salisbury Close.

UK Postings -- How Long?

We checked out on 15 June, and so far no postings to the HHonors account or AA miles. How long does this usually take?

By the way, credit card has already been charged!!

Which Hilton did you stay at? These things can be quite variable. I have had stays in Europe and Africa post the day after checking out, while others can take weeks. For example, I had two stays in the UK earlier this month, the latter of the two has posted, the former has not. In both cases, the folio has my HH and airline accounts printed on them. Posting can take from a day to two weeks for the HH points, several more weeks for the AA miles.

Does your folio have your HH and AA account numbers on it, in the upper right corner? If not, fax the folio into the HH service centre, with your account numbers, and a note requesting credit. This can also be done over the internet, from your account page.

SHAREHOLDER -- Thanks for the quick AND informative reply!! It was the Kensington Hilton and yes, all the pertinent information was given and is shown on my folio. However, based on what you write, I'll give it a little while longer...... Thanks again!!

Interesting. They may be having a problem at that property. It is my Kensington stay on the 14th of this month which has still not shown up, while the night at the Olympia last Monday posted within days. I filled out the web site form and emailed it this morning with the appropriate information. Maybe you should do that as well.

Just submit the online query form and they usually post in 7-10 days after that. I usually wait a week to see if a stay posts from the UK and then submit a request.

I guess so! I got in around 11pm from LHR on Friday. Took the Concorde from JFK, only to discover the last AirBus left T4 20-min before we arrived, so hopped the Tube to Hammersmith and transferred onto the H&C Line, then walked over from the Sheppard's Bush station. Went back over to a pub in "the Bush" for a pint, then back to the hotel. Room 6106.

Had to catch a flight to FRA next morning, so I had a full breakfast downstairs [included in the L64 rate], skipping the Exec Lounge. Checked out about 8:30a, strolling over to the Holland Park tube station, from which I headed down to Earl's Court to catch a Picadilly line train out to LHR.

My plan, of course, was to use the Airbus to and from LHR -- my reason for selecting the Kensington, though I stay here regularly when in London since I like the district -- but in the end I opted for two L2.30 tube trips.

Were you among those watching the soccer game in the lounge early Saturday morning?

BTW, have you made use of the atlases your Secret Santa sent last Christmas?

YES, YES, YES -- we were in the executive lounge watching the game with guests from ALL over the world And from there we took the Airbus (incredibly convenient) to LHR --- But, Sheppard's Bush Station at that time of night?? Rough!!

However, then imagining you on the Concorde over followed by a ride on the tube is priceless But indeed, it was a "lovely" morning to stroll over to Holland Park Station!! And also, the atlases are helping in our travels -- how sweet of you to ask......

On a similar topic, if my reservation was made directly with the hotel and my stay didn't post, can I submit the form on the website or should I email [email protected]?

Free house wine offer – UK only

Just received a rather tacky offer from Hilton.

Entitled "An exclusive dining offer from Hilton HHonors", it offers two complimentary bottles of house wine (whoa!!) when one dines at a participating Hilton restaurant (all non-London hotels).

Offer is targeted (letter must be presented), runs until 30th September and is for a minimum of 4 people, 7 days a week at dinner only.

What a strange offer! If not staying at the hotel it means I have to drive... so no drinking and if staying then I’d opt for something else that the dreaded house wine...

As a side note – this is the first non-hotel linked offer received from Hilton, so maybe some creativity is on its way...

help with hilton reward stay in UK

I would like to do a reward stay next summer in the UK countryside with my family (wife & two little kids). The Hilton website lists 76 hotels in the UK, but the pointstretcher page lists only 13 for the second half of 2002. Does that mean that only one sixth of all the UK Hiltons even offer pointstretcher dates? Our original plan had been to do a few three night pointstretcher stays in the same general area. Now it looks as if that's not possible. Is a GLON our best bet? We'll stay with relatives in London, so we wanted to be somewhere else for the second week. Any suggestions that would be a nice base for exploring that's not too expensive to get to? BTW, Blondebomber's spreadsheet was a great help for getting a overview of all properties in the UK--thanks. Now I just need to know which specific hotel might be good for a base camp.

Not had much experience with PS awards in the UK, as I've tended to find the normal rates so low as to make using the points expensive.

As to where to base yourself, well that depends on what you like doing, and if you're going to have access to a car. If you would like to give a bit of further info, I'm sure myself or any of the other UK based HH members will help.

Hilton UK do produce a very good brouchure of all UK properties called 'Leisure Breaks'. This gives details of where each hotel is, what facilties it has, and attractions nearby. You should be able to get a copy by calling the UK hilton Honors center on 00 800 444 666 77. Also check out www.hilton.com/uk or email [email protected]

If I remember correctly, there used to be a 'tour the UK' offer which allowed you to stay 5 or more nights at different UK hiltons and receive 10% of the rates.

If you're stuck with a GLONP award, my choices would be either York, Bath, Cardiff, Glasgow or Edinburgh. These are all easy to get to by train from London (check www.nationalrail.co.uk for prices), and have loads to do within walking distance or a short bus ride. The're also near excellent countryside so you would be able to get your feet muddy walking, for example, the Yorkshire dales. Leeds is another option, but the hotel is not as nice as York. Another possible option would be Dublin, which tends to have cheap flights from London.
