Hilton prices naturally vary wildly per days of the week. It is rare to see the Hilton Paddington at GBP90 (usually GBP230+) mid week but often GBP60+ on the weekends. The real London HH bargains are usually at the Metropole and Kensington both weekdays and weekends. I snagged the Hilton Glasgow for seven straight days at less than GBP100 but skipped the weekday Edinburgh at GBP150.

Live in the states, but travel to the U.K. four times a year, as my daughter studies in Durham.
I have had reasonable success in booking Hiltons in the U.K. primarily by taking advantage of their seasonal promotions. Usually, these promotional rates (such as the current Autumn promotion) requires a minimum two night stay, but you can get a room with breakfast each morning of your stay, plus dinner on your first night of the stay, for what is normally the price of the room alone. For example, stayed at the new Gateshead property (Newcastle) for total of 189 G.B.P. for two nights: room on club floor, free breakfast buffet each morning, plus a really great dinner (for both guests in the room), on our first night.
Last June, stayed at the Heathrow Hilton (connected by walkway to T-4), for same rate for two nights, same promotion. Outstanding value, but does require that two night minimum.

Indeed, there can be some nice weekend deals, but as the OP is talking about business travel, those deals probably don't help him very much if at all.

HH VIPs should get a comped continental breakfast. I have never found booking a rate with a free dinner to be a good deal. Usually it is GBP30-GBP50 more than the non-dinner rate and a limited menu too. I can buy dinner separately for much less. I recently booked the nice Antwerp Hilton for 4 days. I was amazed when the cheapest rate included a buffet breakfast for all days and as I read it, one dinner and exactly one cocktail (it would be nice if it was for all the days). Still, a very nice deal for a well located hotel.

I had £55 in Leeds back in July and there was, potentially, a £95 a night at the Hilton Kensington High Street, as well (but I just got a corporate apartment instead). There are deals to be found, of course, but let's be honest. £100 a night in London is still pretty cheap for even a 3*.

variable miles a month and a half later??? UK

Hi,

After all the discussions about Hilton forcibly switching people from fixed mileage earning to variable mileage earning, I kept checking every couple of days to make sure that mine hadn't changed ... which it didn't.

Now, today, 13 October, I get an email telling me that they've changed me to variable mileage earnings from 1 September. I've just checked and sure enough, all my stays since 1 September (12 stays!!!) have been downgraded to variable when the last time I checked (August?), I am positive that I had selected fixed. I cannot swear that I have ever definitely confirmed that they originally appeared as full earnings but I am pretty peeved at this, to say the least. That is a lot of miles!!!

I have fired off a short & sweet email to Hhonors and await a reply. Has anyone else had this, and what were your results?

Extremely grumpy,

decemmie

You're not double dipping with Virgin by any chance? Virgin did join the points + variable miles on the 1st of Sept without warning. I had four stays over a long weekend at the beginning of Sept and therefore lost out on nearly 4k miles before I noticed. On phoning the UK hhonors centre, they said they could not retrospec change the earning style and therefore they miles would stay at the low rate. They did credit me 3k hilton points as compensation, but this is well short of what the miles are worth. 20k would have been nearer the mark based on hhonors to VS conversion rate.

I now check my earning style before staying !

Hilton considers £200m UK casino

Hotels and gaming group Hilton may open a £200m casino in the north west of England, the group has confirmed. The group has been in "positive talks" with local government officials in Blackpool, spokesman Alex Pagett said.

However, Hilton will only go ahead with the plans if the government agrees to limit the number of "super casinos" in the UK, he added .

The news comes as the government prepares to debate wide-ranging changes to the UK's gambling laws. Blackpool lends itself well to what we hope will emerge from the new legislation

Don't know how far you want to drive, but York or Cardiff are two nice Hilton hotels, both category 3, I think.

Is the weather too bleak in the Scottish Highlands that time of year? If not, the Craigendarroch Hilton near Ballater is a nice property and has a lot of charm.

LEEDS?? For a romantic weekend? Since this is a posting on the Hilton Forum, I am wondering which Hilton property did you have in mind in Leeds? Check out other forum comments about Garforth, and Leeds City!!!

If people are going to suggest Leeds for a romantic weekend, then I may as well throw in Bracknell ... the Hilton is right opposite a Sainsbury's, which has a Starbucks !!

Seriously if you want romantic, and you live in Manchester, then get on a plane and fly to Paris, Barcelona, Athens, Copenhagen, or even New York.

I would do exactly that except for rather severe budgetery constraints!
I have considered Cardiff - looks a nice property...
