I don't understand why you say the Conrad is in a ho-hum location. Steps from the tube, 3 minute walk to Westminster, Nice park 100 yds away. Sure it's not near the financial district, High Street Ken or Oxford St, but that's what the tube is for.....

March 5 night stay near Hyde Park
Using points but limited. Probably will have to stay at 50,000 points per night (this assumes fifth night free). So my choices are: Hyde Park Hilton, Hyde Park DT, possibly DT Marble Arch, Hilton Olympia, Hilton Mteropole, and Hilton Kinsington. Visiting son who is staying at Queen’s Gate near Imperial College but actually only seeing him the first three days. Flying into Gatwick. Myself, wife and 15 yr old daughter. Haven’t been to London since 1985 so it’s going to be all new for me and my daughter. Convenience of tube station would be nice. Decent Free breakfast (as Diamond) would be nice as well. Thoughts?

- Metropole (it's a big hotel, personalisation isn't going to happen here but otherwise ticks your boxes)
- Hyde Park DT (assuming you get an upgraded room)
- Hyde Park Hilton
- Olympia (poor for tube, good for bus, better than most for breakfast, some rooms aren't good though many are fine)
- Kensington (good for tube, but it's really Shepherd's Bush and some rooms there really aren't good).
I can't recall staying at the DT Marble Arch, I'm afraid, though I walked past it on Friday night. Its location is fabulous, just behind Selfridges on Oxford Street / Bond Street and Marble Arch.

I stayed at the DT Marble Arch last week. Really great location - two minute walk to Marble Arch underground station, and 5-7 minute walk to Bond Street station and a block from Oxford Street. Hotel was appointed well and had an above-average fitness room.
I didn't utilize the free diamond breakfast, so I cannot comment on that.
