This place started off a real s*** show. I had to wait 45 minutes to be checked into my room. There was a super long line of guests waiting to check in today when I arrived and only one or two agents checking people into their rooms, often taking 10 minutes to check in guests .once I got to the desk, I was done quickly, but someone really needed to get a handle on this and they didn't. No bell service when I arrived, so no one to open our doors, help us with bags, escort us inside, nothing. Staff offered water for guests waiting to check in, but with no bathroom in sight, and check-ins taking forever, the last thing I needed was to feel like I might wet my pants waiting.
I was upgraded to a city view room on the 19th floor, as a diamond guest. Nothing special. I don't really care either way.
We were late to our 6pm dinner reservations on account of the insanely slow check-in process. It was a stressful way to start our NYE. We managed though. What are you gonna do...?
The NYE party at the SkyBar was great though. Great views of the strip and fireworks show. Drinks were good. The place was packed. Music was fun. Award stay and free passes to the party. Hard to beat that. Just really wish they would have handled check-ins better. They closed the upstairs lobby to set up for the NYE party right as most guests were arriving to check in. I don't get it.

Note, since we had two separate award reservations, I don't think the $50 daily credit ($25 pp) can be combined. It wasn't a problem for us as we had bfast at the Zen and also ordered room service.
Yes, party was good...was glad to be indoors.
We got out of T-Mobile arena pretty quickly and was back at WA around 11:10...we quickly changed and was at the Skybar by 11:30, just enough time to get a drink before the countdown.

Our check-in experience was quite different than yours. We stayed two nights, 30th and the 31st, on two separate award reservations. Award nights for both nights opened up less than a wk before check-in, received 15th floor city view on the 30th and upgraded to a 14th floor strip view on the 31st. We checked in ~10am on the 3Service was as expected (bellman took our bags, bags were in room when our room was ready, bags moved from one room to the other, etc).

Edit: wrong floor of check-in

I imagine the issue would not have been a problem for people checking in early or those who arrived the day before. They said they specifically closed the check-in area on the top floor due to the party preparation. There were 30+ people queued in the 3rd floor entry with a couple of agents checking people in at the bell station. On top of that, it was freezing, despite being crammed into the small area.

(I said 3rd floor before, but we checked in on the ground floor, not the 3rd)

Spent two nights here as Gold (Dec 26,27). Check-in was swift and without any line. FD explained the Gold benefits which included $25 per day and person food credit, and one-category upgrade from Strip View to Jr Suite which was nice.
The breakfast can be busy but you can make a reservation to skip the wait.

Sorry but that's impossible. I was in line from 4:40pm to 5:40pm and there was still at least 15 people behind me. Me and the local couple behind us were at the desk at right about 5:30pm to get checked in, and they, along with everyone before us, had waited the hour long wait to check in. Did you miss the huge line of people waiting? Guarantee you couldn't have walked in there at that time and missed it. And if you got your keys to the new room and skipped the line, then it's clear you were the exception since you were already checked-in.

It’s unfortunate that you had a poor experience; I’m not questioning it. Just reporting that my experience was different than yours. I suspect your experience was an anomaly due to the NYE check-in relocation.

After reading some of this thread, I have mixed feelings about the rebranding from MO to WA. In the past, the MO was my go-to hotel in LAS (also ATL which has also been rebranded to a WA). Despite ranging in status over the years from Gold/Plat/Diamond in HH/SPG, I would almost always give up points earning to stay at the ATL & LAS MOs. Always experienced amazing service at MO LAS. No loyalty program yet my repeat stays were usually recognized with a nice gift of a plate of fruit and nuts, little touches like that. Also loved the Asian decor of MO LAS.
From what I have been able to pick up on this thread, it sounds like HH Golds are given a $25/day food credit in lieu of continental breakfast. Is that correct? $25/day per guest or per room? If the former, that's a pretty good deal especially if usable for any food/room service not just breakfast. The old MO LAS room service menu had a fantastic Indian lamb shank dish for dinner. One of my favorite room service meals anywhere.
Posts on here mention that the rooms are getting tired. For now, the Asian decor remains and no room renovations have taken place yet? Is that right?
What specifically has the hotel or its rooms looking tired?
I'm assuming that once renovated the Asian look will be gone. That's disappointing. Hope they don't change the mattresses and linens. MO LAS was always one of my favorite hotel beds - right up there with The Jefferson in RIC (another destination where I always ditch status and go with a non-HH/MR/SPG hotel).
The miserable check-in experiences mentioned above were just a function of a temporary (NYE?) relocation of the check-in desk from the 27th floor sky lobby to a lower floor, right? Normal check-in will remain on the sky lobby?
Any other tips, tricks, pieces of advice, for the new WA that y'all can throw my way to reassure me that whoring myself out to earn points here won't take away the things that made the MO LAS so special?

The check-in experience I had was a temporary issue and apparently not even a constant issue, but to me it screamed of a lack of preparation, which is weird because I imagine the staff of the MO is still there at the WA. But it seemed the peak check-in hours should have been better handled. Plus since I only had a one night stay, no one told me where to check out the next day.
I also didn't get the $25/pp credit. One of the hotel staff contacted me the day after I submitted my review of the stay and apologized and said something odd - the $25/pp credit was for breakfast. At the WA-BH the credit could be used at any food establishment on the property. I was retroactively given the credit for my NYE bar tab.
