Previously, the standard reward could be either 40k or 60k depending on dates. The promise was that the maximum would not go up. The maximum is still 60k, so the promise has been kept.

Hilton Moorea went from 70k points per night to 165k. Most likely leaving Hilton after this.

The outsized value left is where the cash price is significantly higher than .05x the cap for the property. Gone are the days of getting seasonal pricing in the low end of the range despite a high cash price for the day.
But a 30k cap still seems to be holding even on a night that otherwise would be $300 or more. Points and cash is completely gutted. But we all knew it would be as soon as they announced it would be linear. I simply see Hilton now as offering a refund of the $s I spend by giving me back 1/2 cent per $1 spent to be used towards a so called free night or partial free night. Having dropped Hyatt I came back to Hilton seems my stay will be extremely short, with 20 Stays thus far I will do the remaining 10 to be Diamond then use up the pts and not look back. |
One HH property I've enjoyed staying at in the past on weekend trips is the Hampton Truckee/South Lake Tahoe in California. In the past it has been 30k offseason, 40k high season. With this change it's now 60k/night on weekends.

Doubletree Times Square NYC now as low as 49,000 in the winter. Nice properties in NYC as low as 30,000. Previously it was impossible to find NYC less than 60,000.

I assume that we're going to see people posting all sorts of these examples but it's very curious that there wasn't more discussion of this when Hilton announced these changes. It was obvious points and cash was being taken away as we knew it. What did people think "linear" was going to mean?
I'm ok with devaluation outrage. But I'm surprised now that people seem to be surprised. From the day they announced this, the math was pretty much knowable. Obviously, this doesn't apply to everyone as some have posted positive changes! |

Well, I ended up saving 44,000 points on my Hong Kong Conrad stay in December-going from 160,000 to 116,000-so this actually worked out well for me. I changed from a superior to a classic room, but there is no difference in description. Maybe I saved because it is right before Christmas, or because it is so far out-still, 44,000 is a BIG difference! And I will still be diamond at that point, hopefully, I will get a super room from that as my diamond status here in the US has done nothing.

Another data point, comparing an existing two night points + money booking I have at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Boston Logan Airport Chelsea with the new system.
Current booking: $189.89 + 40,000 points New system: $314.64 + 40,000 points This is for a "Standard Room Reward". Good grief. Neil |

Yes, it also looks to me that the old Points + Money is basically dead and was replaced with Points + so much money that you'll either spend all points or switch to another chain.
Those were a fantastic value to be sure, but they were a needle in a haystack to begin with. |

Totally agree. And it doesn't help that people appear to be looking for and posting their findings related solely to devaluations. Those that are hellbent on finding and posting devals seem to be overlooking and ignoring hotels in their posts where you can get better point rates than before. A few have even gone as far as posting specifics on devals (hotels names, before and after rates)...then hinting ever so slightly they found better rates at other hotels without posting any info. Obviously, this doesn't apply to everyone as some have posted positive changes! |

Just something to keep in mind if classic is technically a downgrade from superior. |
Prices seem to fluctuate constantly.
