For breakfast, the choice was the buffet breakfast at the Grand Orbit restaurant or the American breakfast from room service. The Front Office manager who escorted me to my room made sure I saw the letter which was on the desk in the room. The lack of the EL aside, the service at the hotel is as good as ever. The adjacent shopping center is now opened up to the third floor and the food court has some pretty interesting food. I noticed they also increased the internet speed to 3 mbps download which is a much appreciated improvement.
So is the lounge being renovated or permanently shuttered to make room for something else? That was without a doubt the best lounge I've ever been to.

Also, I remember seeing something about a pedestrian bridge to the Venetian. Is that being built or still in the planning stages?

The lounge is permanently shuttered at the previous location. If there is a new lounge, it will be at a new location. Everybody I asked said that there would be a new lounge at a new location but nobody had any specific information so I get the feeling that nothing has been decided.

The pedestrian bridge will be finished this year. You can see the construction from the main entrance.

Per their welcome letter about the lounge, they said "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we look forward to reopening in 2013 and presenting a more exclusive lounge for our Club guests".

And i highly recommend the breakfast at Orbitz. It has quite impressive offerings.

About the bridge, i could've sworn we walked to Venetian directly from the complex, via covered walk.
Not sure if we're talking about the same bridge.

We checked into the Conrad Macau yesterday. Our experience so far has been much as others have described in this thread: Upgraded to a spacious and beautiful suite, lots of personal attention, free breakfast, tea, and cocktails in hotel restaurants/lounge, and both written and oral apologies that they are "working on" the executive lounge and that it is therefore not open. I wonder, did the lounge used to be on the top (39th) floor? That floor is now entirely occupied by something called the APEX club, which is accessible by invitation only. Said to be for high rollers.

How are Golds treated

Members with Gold status receive all the benefits in the lower tiers:
Conrad® Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton™

Space-available upgrade to a preferred room
1,000 HHonors Bonus Points per stay or a complimentary continental breakfast for you and up to one additional guest registered to the same room each day of your stay

above as per hilton website

Where is the complimentary continental breakfast served? Any success in getting a room upgrade.

Thanks ...

Macau 5 day sale till Feb 22 - 2night stay only - good for travel till July 12 2013

Hotel currently has a up to 50% on 2 night stays.

I booked King Deluxe City View Friday April 26 and Saturday April 27 for HK$1,199 ++ per night. A little cheaper for weekday stays $949++ per night. It is PREPAID and NON-Refundable.

If my gold status gives me an upgrade that will be a bonus.

Nice that you got the tea/cocktails etc.
When I went there a few months ago, I was served by a rather stingy 'manager' who offered an upgrade as I was Gold, but needed to argue for the breakfast. didn't get the tea or cocktails either.

Hmm. This was not our experience. Everyone was really nice and attentive, from assistant-manager level on down. However, I did think the "Director of Operations", whom we did not meet during our stay but who responded to my Trip Advisor review, was a little snippy. But then he probably thought I was ungrateful for not having been 100% enthusiastic.

As for the difference in treatment, it may be because I am a Diamond. I'm not sure what the hotel's obligations are under the Honors program in a situation like this, in which the hotel officially has a lounge but doesn't really. But I guess they were just going out of their way to make sure Diamond members got the equivalent of what they would have received in the lounge. If I were them I would have done this for Gold members as well, but this may be one of the reasons no one has offered me a job as a hotel manager.

I wonder if it was the Diamond.

In the Hong Kong property as a Gold I got upgraded to the exec floor if I booked the cheapest room. We had 3 people in the booking and all were given free breakfast/lounge access.

in Macau I got the upgraded to the suite, (although I've heard many non members have this happen to them as well).
I booked two rooms, but they didn't want to give complimentary breakfast for the third person, which I felt was very stingy.

Can't wait for the exec lounge to come back in proper, that should remove having to act like a beggar for something that the Hong Kong property would have automatically granted.

I've also noticed an interesting pattern of hotel chains addressing complaints.
I always give them an opportunity to address the problem whilst I am staying there, but many hotels seem to do nothing other than say "thanks for your feedback"

It's only after staying there and firing off an email, do I get a reply saying "sorry, you were right, we failed you.....next time we will offer you blah blah blah".
Why not just fix it there and then rather than having to go through this process?
I suspect it's either the front desk people are not the people I should be wording complaints to?

An example where this happened was in the IHG HK. Lots of things went wrong (bed not set up, not enough crockery, very slow checkin, wanted to charge extra for sugar in the room etc), and complaints to the front desk were all brushed off. Only after sending an email to IHG AFTER my stay did they do something.

The bus will be for the Conrad, Holiday Inn, and Sheraton. The bus will stop in front of the Holiday Inn. The entrance to the Conrad is about 20-30 yards to the right of the Holiday Inn entrance. The check-in area is inside a huge room to your right as you enter. The receptionist will personally escort you up to your room.

That got me past immigration in about five minutes. When exiting you need to cross to the hotel bus parking area. The Sands Cotai Central bus is to the left middle when looking at the lot. Use the underground tunnel to the otherside. As mentioned before the Conrad is to the right when exiting the bus. If you have large luggage or a roller board is will be stored under the bus so I would caution against any valuables.

I had been in contact with the property prior to my arrival. Was hoping for a upgrade which I did receive a king club non-smoke suite. Very very very nice. It would rank in the top ten of suites in my life. The suite is class. Amenity is Acca Kappa, the clear gold duck with dice inside, gold Conrad bear and unique his/her slippers in fashionable colors. Two welcome letters and a glass Conrad jar with candy in it. So cool. The Fiji water is a nice touch.
Is this still the general process from the Hong Kong Airport ferry terminal? Do you still look out for the Sand Cotai Central bus?

Be there for two nights towards the end of April. Can't wait.

I would think you're practically guaranteed to get a space-available upgrade if you have a weeknight stay.

Breakfast is a full buffet (not just continental) for Golds and Diamonds offered in the adjacent mall at Grand Orbit, which is across from the McDonald's. Plenty of Western selections are offered, but the majority of the fare was Asian. Cooked to order eggs/omelets are offered.

I'll be here for a night on 3 May 2013 (one day trip to Macao after 5 days in HK). I'll report back with Diamond success rate on everything.

Conrad Macao, Cotai Central Trip Report with Pictures

Checked in tonight. As a Diamond member, I was treated like royalty. Am here on a one-night stay with points (50,000 before devalue).

Instantly recognized as a Diamond member, and Tony (the front desk clerk) called someone and said, "Mr. bkafrick is here". While Tony was filling out my info from my passport, a Ms. Nicole Chen came and greeted me by name. She gave me her business card, and told me to call her at any time if there was anything she could do. She offered to extend my checkout as late as I would like - she offered 3pm, I accepted. I would think anyone staying here could email her: Nicole.Chen at conradhotels dot com

Tony insisted on walking me up to my room. I was upgraded from my booked King to a suite. This might be the largest suite I've ever stayed in. Even bigger than the 1200sqft one I was in at Hilton New York. Pictures below:

I apologize for the quality of the photos. I had to use my iPhone. I left my camera in my hotel room in Hong Kong, since I'm only here for one night.

Of course there is an awesome Conrad Bear, and Ducky. They'll make the trip back to HK with me, and then back to the US.
