There used to be a 2500 pt online bonus? (Maybe my info was outdated.)

Thanks though for the update!

And - I still get the 10pts/$1 for each stay, right?

If this the is the only Avis/mile/point award I would be receiving, maybe I should be seeking a "better" mileage bonus for the car rental. (I was hoping this would be like the National bonus mile offer that awards extra miles at the hotel check-in.)

2,500 point online booking bonus has expired as of July 31, now it's only 500 points.

And yes, your base points are 10 per $ spent, plus bonuses, elite and otherwise.

I must have been reading an old Hhonors topic that mentioned the 2500 pts. Oh well... 500 points is still better than none.

Thanks!

Maniac,

You could possibly earn more on the car(s) by renting National or Thrifty, getting points from HHonors at the hotel and miles from the partner airline.

And there are differences between how the partners in these programs, not just HHonors, work. For example, if you plan to exchange points to miles, AA does 1:1, while most airlines do 1 mile to 2 points.

Here is a link to my opinion on what are the best car and double dip opportunities for maximum points after converting miles or km to points. Remember that 1 km = 1.6 miles.

one more thing -

It can be easy to forget what I consider the cardinal rule: CASH is better than points or miles any day.

If you have a choice between paying $50 a day for a car at National, but Enterprise (no points or miles) will rent the same car to you for $25, you've just got to take the money.

I think our (my) fixation on points and miles can sometimes be distracting from the real bargains -- cash in pocket!

Avg. Time to Post to Account?

How long should I usually wait for a stay to post to my account if I just checked out on this past Sunday?

swimtrip,

I have found that Hampton's are about 3 days, Embassy Suites normally take longer as do Hiltons. Usually post within 1 week.

Not so sure about that - - links to 9 different recent threads covering all types of HH properties (the original poster was not specific).

No offense intended, swimtrip.

My stays usually post within a week. Never had any problems missing stays or points.
