If you're looking for a specialty vehicle from Hertz (something from the Prestige/Adrenaline/Green Collections), it is helpful if you can specify the four-letter car size code (i.e. ICAR, MVAR, etc.) shown on the Hertz website for the specific vehicle you're looking for.

What else can I do here:

Pickup/Dropoff: Wrigleyville Lakeview HLE (though another location near 60613 is ok--even airport)
Pickup Date and Time: 12/22/2012 10AM
Return Date and Time: 1/2/2012 5PM
Car Preference: any

Using the #1 club gold discount program I can get $364 and with the BBSG corporate code I get $378.

Was hoping this could be done cheaper but I can't find any codes that seem to work.

I need help! I'm moving for Los Angeles, CA to Vancouver Canada and will be renting a minivan to transport my stuff (preferably the kind where the seats lower into the car so there is wide open space for my stuff). Not going to take the van across the border, can drop it off in blaine, bellingham or seattle WA (blaine most preferable, seattle least).

pickup dec 8 morning in los angeles or surrounding areas (im willing to go 50ish miles to get the van)
return: dec 10 morning in blaine or bellingham or seattle WA
car preference: minivan!

The rates when i do this are like $700!

So I thought, well maybe i will do a week long rental, pick up Dec 3 in Cali, return Dec 10 in WA....and it still is about $700

PLEASE help. I've been trying random coupon codes etc for the past several days with no luck. Does anybody have any tips for this one-way rental? I tried other companies also, most don't let me take a minivan oneway, thrifty offers a great rate but charges me like $500 drop fee.

ANY tips would be appreciated!

Greetings from (cold) Norway - my first post into this forum, and I'm looking forward traveling on the west-coast from SFO to LAX, to San Diego and then completing the vacation in LAS

Pickup Location (airport, city, or ZIP code/postcode): SFO
Dropoff Location (if different) (airport, city, or ZIP code/postcode): LAS
Pickup Date and Time: 25.12.2012 / 13:00
Return Date and Time: 08.01.2013 / 13:00
Vehicle Size Preference: Full size
Memberships (AAA/USAA/airline FFP/etc): Norwegian creditcard(s) CDP 750750, Star alliance Eurobonus, Club Carlson.

Creditcard CDP is giving me: 628.20 USD with LDW included for 2 weeks from the Norwegian Hertz site.
I'm after a comfortable ride with high mpg("green"), so probably 2013 Altima or so in the full size class.

OK, so with my AAA CDP, I used PC 174193 which I saw in a AAA magazine which is supposed to get you a double upgrade. Online, I got a final price, after taxes, of $152 for a standard car (which should upgrade me to a premium), but I called Hertz and the nice lady on the phone got me a final price of $147! That's pretty darn good, I think, for a premium car for 6 days.

I would love it if you could find anything cheaper, but if not, I'm ok with under $25/day for a premium car.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get around to this. I'm sure by now you've found a decent rate, but prices do tend to decrease as the time of rental gets nearer, so perhaps I'll have found a deal for you Unfortunately I was unable to get any PCs to stick with the reservation, likely because it is a one-way trip.

From the Mason Avenue HLE to Las Vegas McCarran:
ECAR: $252.84 w/ AAA, $266.89 w/ Amex CDP
CCAR: $258.77 w/ AAA, $273.15 w/ Amex CDP
ICAR: $264.70 w/ AAA, $279.40 w/ Amex CDP

From the Mason Avenue HLE to the Rio Hotel and Casino:
ECAR: $223.21 w/ AAA, $235.61 w/ Amex CDP
CCAR: $229.14 w/ AAA, $241.87 w/ Amex CDP
ICAR: $235.06 w/ AAA, $248.12 w/ Amex CDP

Rates from the Hollywood Burbank Airport to either location in Vegas were much more expensive than from the Mason Avenue HLE (ECAR w/ AAA was nearly $400), so I didn't investigate further into that. I hope this helped!

FWIW, because you return one day and three hours after you pick up, the rate will be for two days. If there's any way you can get it down to one day, you would save a good amount of money.

Also, you should investigate into what your local AAA chapter's CDP number is; I used the generic AAA headquarters CDP in my findings.

Last time I checked this, the prices were as follows:
With both pickup & return at the Downtown HLE:
ICAR w/ PC# 175070: $134.75
SCAR w/ PC# 175070: $144.54
FCAR w/ PC# 175070: $154.33
I tried using PC# 176492 at the SMF airport, but weekly rates were well over $300 even for an ECAR. The Sacramento Downtown HLE unfortunately does not support this PC, but waiting has paid off! Using PC# 168210 and the AAA AZ CDP at the HLE, here's what I found:

ICAR: $117.81
SCAR: $125.56
FCAR: $136.52

Man, it's so weird how I can't get the same prices as you (I cleared my cache and cookies and am using a different browser than the first time I checked prices). Using AAA CDP at the downtown location, and PC 168210, I'm seeing $140.04 for a SCAR and $150.12 for a FCAR online.

Thank you very much for looking though; those are fantastic rates! Although, now that I got the PCAR for $147, I think I'll try that. =) You are the man!

I reformatted your post so anyone else who wants to try finding you a rate will have an easier time understanding it

AFAIK there are no PCs that you can use, since it is a one-way out of a state that is very picky about their rental cars (due to state emissions laws). To help somewhat, I used an airline CDP (Delta/165385, to be specific) in my findings since that tends to help bring down the rate, and if you're not a member of any airline's FFP it's easy enough to sign up, which makes you eligible; you can still earn Hertz Gold points even if you use an airline CDP.

Here is a list of the 22 L.A. locations I searched from:
  • Union Station
  • Downtown Marriott
  • Downtown Sheraton HLE
  • JW Marriott Los Angeles
  • Pico HLE
  • Eagle Rock HLE
  • 1001 South Brand Blvd HLE
  • Hollywood Fairfax HLE
  • Crenshaw Collision Center HLE
  • Loews Hollywood HLE
  • La Cienega HLE
  • West Hollywood HLE
  • Central Ford HLE
  • Residence Inn HLE
  • 810 South Victory Blvd HLE
  • Toluca Lake HLE
  • Hyatt Regency Century Plaza
  • Pasadena Colorado HLE
  • LAX Hilton Hotel HLE
  • LAX Marriott Hotel
  • Westwood HLE
  • LAX (Los Angeles Int'l)

There are no HLEs in Blaine (the nearest ones are in British Columbia; I only searched for locations in the USA per your request, if you'd like us to check out the Canadian ones too, let us know). Here are the drop-off locations I searched:
  • BLI (Bellingham Int'l)
  • Downtown Bellingham HLE -- cannot return here
  • North Cascade Ford HLE (Sedro Woolley, WA)
  • 300 Williow Lane HLE (Mount Vernon, WA)

There are a number of locations in Seattle, and I'll try to get to them later (I figured that would be the least convenient for you since it's 100+ miles south of the border). My results are in a matrix format, with the left column displaying the CA locations, and the top row displaying the WA locations. The North Cascade Ford HLE and 300 Williow Lane HLE both yielded the same rates.

Code:
		BLI Apt	Others
LAX Airport	$595.11	$595.11
1001 S Brand	$218.93	$218.93
810 S Victory	$380.79	$200.01

Pasadena Col.	$456.65	$239.80
Pico HLE	$387.75	$202.27
Residence Inn	$221.40	$221.40
Toluca Lake	$380.17	$199.37
Union Sta.	$484.04	$254.17
West H'wood	$385.75	$202.27
Westwood HLE	$385.75	$202.27
I bolded the cheapest rates by return location; I hope you found this helpful

Not sure if IC in your profile refers to InterContinental Hotels, but Priority Club also has a CDP; regardless, it would normally yield the same rate as the Marriott CDP

Note that there are three locations with addresses on Collins Avenue: Loews Miami Beach Hotel, Fontainebleau Resort, and Eden Roc Renaissance.

Here's what I found:

Loews:
IFAR: $1533.88 w/ Marriott CDP & PC# 175070
No other SUVs available

Fontainebleau:
IFAR: $1501.83 w/ Marriott CDP & PC# 175070
Call location for info regarding availability of other classes

Eden Roc:

Currently my best (non-prepaid) rate is $1149.95 ai ($497.66/wk+$426.54/6 days+fees and taxes) for intermediate SUV. I hope that it can be lowered.

Thank you!
In all cases, IFAR was the cheapest, so that is the only type I researched. Prepaid rates are significantly cheaper than pay-later rates; I was only able to get your rate down by a few dollars without having to pay up-front.

Pay-now rates were $967.76 with all CDPs. The cheapest AAA pay-later rate I could find was $1145.20 using PC# 176492; using the same PC with the Costco and airline CDPs yielded a rate of $1211.14. I could not get any PCs to work with the Amex OPEN CDP.

Thanks!
Note that there's no guaranteeing exactly what type of car you will get within a class, although when you are at the desk you can always ask for something specific. You can reserve a Nissan Altima or Toyota Camry (FSAR) for slightly more than the FCAR rate in most cases. There's no predicting what they will give you for an IFAR, but they had a Nissan Rogue available 3 weeks ago (I turned it down for a Jeep Liberty w/ XM at a lower rate!). At that time I had a B (CCAR) reservation; the IFAR was only a $5-10/day upgrade ^

Using the Delta CDP and PC# 176492, here's what I found:

FCAR: $296.85
FSAR: $405.16
IFAR: $560.38

What is the $84? Is that per day, per week, per month? You need to teach me your secret, or I need to jump ship from Hertz

The cheapest rate I was able to get was $1070.43 using the USAA CDP and no PC; this is for either SCAR or FCAR (same rate). Airline CDPs brought the rate up by over $100.
