The list in this thread is based on our collective observations. If something is not on the list, once it has been reported, it is added. So the chances of you getting something not mentioned is approximately zero.

There are only three convertibles on fleet at present: the Camaro, the Mustang and the Merc SLK.

In SoCal and Arizona, there are far more Camaro V6 models than Mustangs - at least 3:1 and perhaps nearer 5:1.

If you book a convertible, they will try to give you one, but depending on supply at the time, you may not get much choice on model. If you are happy to go with a non-convertible, yo may be able to agree to something else.

The SLK is a strict 2 seater. The Camaro and Mustang do seat 4. The issue with both is not so much the capacity of the boot as the size of the opening to get large stuff in there.

Most of the cars will have been bought "for the season", so will likely be 2016 models that went on the road earlier this year. There are some 2015s still out there, but far fewer than there used to be.

Thank you very much for your explaining answer. Though, it doesn't look good for a Mustang then. I am even willing to pay a bit more, but unfortunately Group W (Mustan Convertible only) is not available, neither in Mountain View nor any of the surrounding branches. Any tipps?

SMF - Sacramento
Booked: Midsize SUV (Group Q4) IFAR, Jeep Compass or similar
Initial Carfirmation: Dodge Journey 2WD
Revised Carfirmation (1.5 hours later): Jeep Compass 4x4

NOTE The Jeep Compass is a terrible car. Here are my gripes:
1) The driver seat adjustments are really rudimentary and you cannot properly adjust this seat if you are 5'2" -- there is a strange upward pitch to the seat which causes your knees to slam into the bottom of the steering column.
2) You cannot adjust the steering wheel forward/back, only up & down.
3) The cargo space is minimal. With 3 people, 1 large suitcase, 1 small suitcase, 2 backpacker packs & a day pack, the car had no room left inside. Felt more like a sedan than a SUV.
4) Hard ride. Not sure if it's the tires, but every bump nearly sent me flying out of my seat
5) Dashboard and instruments feel very "low rent."

For how much a weekly SUV rental costs, this car is a dud.

Has anyone spotted new Adrenaline cars? Would like to rent from IAD in September, which most probably isn't a specific Adrenaline rental station anyway, but searching at some other locations only showed occasionally a (sold out) Hertz Shelby GT Mustang, but nothing else. No Adrenaline Corvette, Challenger, Camaro, Mustang anywhere. Does Hertz still have these or are they wainting for new ones to arrive? Think the main season for these cars should have started quite a while ago.

3 rentals during a recent trip as 5*:

1) NYC - E 48th St (between 1st & 2nd St)
Booked: FCAR
Assigned: FCAR Toyota Camry SE
Rented: YF VW Passat

Changed to a 2016 VW Passat as I find it better than a Camry. Also saw a 2016 Malibu in FCAR, but nothing else much as the place was pretty empty.

2) Chicago State St HLE
Booked: FCAR
Assigned: NOTHING
Rented: YF VW Passat

It was Mother's day and who would have thought tons of people were looking to rent a car. Didn't dawn on me. Either way, out of an expected 70+ cars only 30+ had been returned as planned and there was a huge gap and ORD was slow in delivering extra cars. So initially there was no car, but eventually they offered me an Hundai Elantra or a Honda Civic (ICAR) and said they would mark a full tank as 1/8 full only to make up for the difference in price which may not quite have worked out in my favor for my 1 day rental. I took the Civic due to lack of options, but when walking into the garage with the Station Mgr a VW Passat was being returned and I got him to switch my Civic out against that one while I waived the need to clean the car to get going. Worked out alright in the end, but got a bit lucky.

3) PHX
Booked: LCAR
Assigned: LCAR Chrysler 300
Rented: Nothing, cancelled

Okay, anticipating bad things I had a second reservation at Sixt at about 80US$ less than Hertz for a LCAR (C-Class, A4, 3-series, CTS). I had made one request to Hertz and it was to please not get a Chrysler 300 (La Crosse, etc. all fine) for my 10-day rental. I land and get a Carfirmation for a Chrysler 300 with no options offered. Well thanks for taking the "pi*s" Hertz and completely ignoring the one, single request. I went for a quick peak to the Hertz lot and there were 3-4 Lacrosse, plus a couple of Chrysler 300. In higher categories I saw what looked like 2 Infinity sedans and I think I spotted 3 or so Mercedes (C-Class).

Decided to check what Sixt had in store for me and was offered a fully loaded 2016 Volvo S80 in Platinum trim with Navi, Lane assist, blind spot warning etc. A very nice ride and at that stage, instead of arguing with a Hertz Gold Agent, I cancelled my Hertz reservation (still had 30mins to rental start).

Hi all. I have class L SUV.
It's my first time renting an SUV so not sure what to expect or if I should change to something else. I didn't see any Toyota 4runners as it shows in the picture when I was passing by the other day.
What should I expect to get?

Booked Prestige Collection Infiniti or Lexus Crossover on Amex Plat Prepaid rate, 25% discount on 190.99 / day for 3 days then 95.49. Car class was K4. Jersey City, NJ (downtown) location.

Showed up, was given class I (Chrysler 300) but with no rate change. I actually needed the SUV for a trip to lake house on winding mountain roads and this was a meaningful inconvenience for me. The rental office took off $40 total from the reservation when I insisted on a discount but had no SUVs for me, luxury or otherwise, because apparently they get all their cars from the EWR airport office.

Seems like I'm a sucker for this doing this Amex Plat Prepaid rate, which usually comes with a great discount but also a cancellation penalty. So I have to pay a penalty but they can bait and switch me down to an entirely different class and category of car with no rate change? Well, I learned my lesson in time to cancel the rest of my summer reservations with Hertz at least.

Amex Platinum "pay at station" type rate is 20% off and for an extra 5% discount that prepayment gets you I would rather retain the flexibility to cancel and have a second back up with another company (e.g. National) if price is comparable. Not that anyone at Hertz will give a sh*t if you don't rent as frequently any longer, but at least you can vote with wallet.

Glad not too much has changed... I haven't rented a car since February!

Referring to my own post from last week, I had a call with a Hertz representative from San Jose (local station, not the airport). He told me, there will be some 2016 Buick Cascada convertibles in the fleet soon (or actually are already in the fleet). We were talking about the standard convertible class (Group U, STAR, Camaro or similar).

Coming back to my own question: I've just booked a convertible (Group U, STAR, Camaro or similar) for 16 days in July in a small, local Hertz station in the Silicon Valley. I'd love to get a Mustang (preferably a 2.3 EcoBoost due to my 2800 miles ride). What are my chances to get one? I really dislike the Camaro. The option to reserve a specific car (the Mustang) was not available at the location (neither at any other locations nearby, even SFO). Is there anything I could do to increase my chances for a Mustang?

Howdy folks,

I've read elsewhere on the forum that the 'Y' prefix (like YF, etc) refers to a car whose class is unreservable, meaning you can only get it by upgrading at the counter when picking it up.

I'd like to reserve a Dodge Charger or Challenger, but of course both are YF. The last time I tried to do this I made a full size (F) reservation and tried to upgrade at the counter, but had to pay another $320 to get it for a week. 5* status didn't help with this

This time, I'd like to reserve a high enough class that I can "downgrade" to the Charger or Challenger without having to pay extra at the location. Is this a sensible stategy, and if so, do I need to reserve one class up (Premium/G) or higher? (Luxury/I)?

Thanks!

Very excited for the Cascada

You have about a 50-50 chance, unless someone knows more about the fleet in that area. The Mustang will most likely have the V6.

Being a HLE... yeah there's a good chance you'll get a Maxima. Hopefully it will be a 2016.
