I believe AS interlines with Mokulele, so assuming you can check the luggage straight through I think 95 minutes is plenty of time. Note that you can't catch the wiki wiki from the commuter terminal and remain airside. You'll have to walk airside to the interisland terminal at a minimum and then can choose to catch the wiki wiki or walk the rest of the way to the main terminal. My preferenceis to walk.

Unless something has changed, when you alight on the tarmac at the Commuter Terminal you need to tell the agent that you are connecting to a mainland flight so he/she can escort you to the "tunnel" to the Inter-Island Terminal. Otherwise, you risk having a long walk plus having to re-clear security. But, my info is several years old and locals or others who have done this more recently may have better info.

I am not sure what happened to us last time around but I would like to avoid that from happening again. We arrived into HNL sometime around 10pm and we needed to connect from our UA flight to a HA flight to LIH. There was hardly anyone around to ask, and the people we did find did not seem to know ANYTHING! Somehow we ended up outside trying to carry all our bags and having to go back thru TSA. It was very stressful.
This time around its an AA flight in the middle of the day, so that should help. Land at 12:20 and have to connect to HA (codeshare so baggage should be interline). We have 1.5 hours until our HA leaves for LIH. We got so turned around I don't know what to think will happen this time. HNL confused us so! In our defense we were very tired and had to change all of our flights the day of due to a mechanical issue and it was our honeymoon so we were stressed. Normally I don't think twice about navigating around an airport but am I am missing something about HNL that I need to know to get around easier?

1readyset2go: Well, it seems to me like the last time you visited Hawaii, you had a severe case of the Just-Got-Marrieds. Really, this condition can make a frequent flyer forget that when one retrieves their baggage, that they have left the secure zone, and any attempt to re-enter requires once again passing through TSA.
Luckily, you have recovered from that malady, and the next time you arrive, you will stay within the secure zone, and travel through the passageway between the International and Interisland terminals. Warning: If you see a TSA agent standing between you and an exit door, DO NOT EXIT. Fresh air is your enemy!
Seriously, you should have no problems. Just look for signs to the interisland terminal. Study this map in advance and website in advance: http://hawaii.gov/hnl/terminal-information
And in a pinch, ask someone with a uniform how to get to where you want to go without exiting the secure zone. Good luck and have a great Hawaiian vacation!

It was so strange cause HNL was deserted with our late flight. We got on our UA flight that day out of MSY and then they off loaded us for some mechanical issue and course we had a couple of other connecting flights in IAH and LAX after this one. They told us all to make other plans since this flight was a no go, and we did, but trying to rebook right then was a stressful enough on our honeymoon. We had not flown a lot at that point in our lives and were hustling to get our bags and get to the UA counter which was a mile long when we got there. Not so funny thing, we found out later our original flight did leave a couple hours late after they fixed it even after they told us it would not. We made it though and that's what counts. Hopefully we will have better luck on AA this time.

Hawaii Connection
Hi,
We'll be connecting to Lihue Airport through HNL, just wondering how long our layover time should be.
Arrival at HNL-
United Flt. 1431
Lands @ 3:44PM
Would something around 4:45 be too short of a connection? Please let me know how long we should take.
Thanks

do you have to clear customs or are you coming from the US?
if you are not booking the HNL-LIH on the same ticket as the flight TO HNL, then you will have to collect your bags and recheck them, so I think that might be a little tight.
The good news is that HA flights inter-island are like buses, so if you miss that one there's another one coming along in a half hour or so usually.

While theoretically possible, I would not attempt a 1-hour connection. Better to be less stressed and hang out in the airport sipping a Mai Tai.

You need to be at your interisland gate 30 minutes in advance for HA flights. It will take you at least 15 minutes to walk from your UA gate to your HA gate. Longer if you are actually taking another interisland carrier. You need to remain airside and not exit security.

If you land on time, have no luggage to check, and stay within the secure zone, you will be saying "Aloha" to HNL and on your way to LIH!
The question to ask yourself is "How lucky do I feel?" ...about no delays on the inbound...
