That's about what I would expect - roughly $1,000 USD for a 10 hour flight.......

Once booked, is the extra comfort fee non-refundable and non-creditable towards any upgrade? F was crazy high when we booked our tickets, so we paid for extra comfort. It has since fallen to a reasonable level and we’d be happy to pay up to F, but first agent I called said the difference is based on the base fare and extra comfort fee wouldn’t matter. If that’s $100 x 3 down the drain, we’ll probably just sit tight. I’d think HA would want to take more of our money though.

Edit: appears to be the case. Live and learn.

I tried to upgrade 2 years ago on a flight after paying the upgrade for the extra comfort seat and the money I paid for the extra comfort seat would not count towards the upgrade price.

I was going to-do a bid upgrade for my flight in July, however like certainty .

For a one-way flight from SFO-OGG in July I had 2 x extra comfort tickets booked.
Got tempted with the First Class seats as I have an appointment I want to arrive feeling my best.

With a call to the agent I ended up paying $650 USD in total for each ticket (What I payed in economy and the difference to make up to $650 USD per ticket).
After some negotiation I got what I payed for the comfort seats refunded and didn't have to pay any change fees. They basically matched the price offered when I booked the tickets back in late November 2018.

So ended up paying less than if did Bid-Up and have confirmed seating.

I recommend calling and asking nicely what can be done, before putting in a bid. Remember reservations have revenue targets, so it can become a win-win for both customer and reservation agent.

Does the Minimum Bid Change Over Time?

I just checked on the Bid Up page, and found my flight's minimum bid is $395 pp. There are a bunch of seats open.

I am wondering if anyone has experience with the minimum bid being reduced over time?

Many thanks.

I personally have never seen that. As I posted above try calling for an upgrade, if you haven’t already. You may get a good deal..

I always bid $10 more then the min. I’m 2/6 on this plan. 90% of my trips are Hnl-lax so it’s not really that important to me. I’m good with extra comfort seats.

HNL-LAS, 2 pax, $420 bid not accepted. As of yesterday, there were three F seats available on what looks like a packed plane. Not sure if they had accepted another's bid, or someone bought the seats at last minute. We will have to tough it out in EC.

Out of curiosity does anyone here know anyone that has done a mega high bid ?

I’m curious as bidding makes people emotional.

Any particular reason you chose that specific dollar amount?

We were lacking in motivation to bid more, as we were in Economy Comfort.

We actually had one of the better FAs assigned to our section. She was terrific, thereby validating our decision analytic process.
