Success!
Well my $225pp bid for SJC-OGG was accepted, so we're flying in First on Friday! I'll add this to the wiki.
I originally bid $205pp but then thought that might not be enough, so I upped it by $20pp. Now I'm curious if the original bid would've been accepted! We'll never know...
I'm not sure how good of a deal $225pp is, but I know it's a lot cheaper than what the First Class seats were priced at when I bought the tickets.

When did you make your reservations, and when did you submit your bid?

I submitted my original bid of $205pp when they sent the email on Sep 20th. I then updated the bid yesterday Sep 27th to $225.

Got offered a bid up about a week prior for SJC-HNL for flight on Monday 10/17.
Bid $250 for 2 pax, which was more than the minimum $205, right at the Poor/Fair line on the "chance of success-o-meter" on the invite. (good/recommended bid was $460).
I've been watching the open first seats, they just haven't sold despite the HA price dropping steadily as the date approaches. This route was already on a special deal for coach.
Anyway, bid was accepted and we'll have good seats up front for a nearly 6 hour leg, coming from New York, eventually to LIH and ITO.

Bid on HA 2 HNL-LAX for 11/10. Bought coach tix less than 10 days in advance and immediately bid $350pp (2 pax) with bid option (not email invite btw). Full itinerary was RT from LAX-LIH with a stop in HNL as HA does not offer direct flights to LIH from LAX. Was not able to purchase FC when initially bought tickets since FC was full for the LIH-HNL leg so only option was to bid for the long leg and hope for the best. Notified about winning bid about 36 hours in advance of flight. Glad it all worked out but I don't think we will be seated next to one another. Seat assignment/availability in FC is unavailable but when I last checked prior to bid acceptance, 2 FC seats were left but were not near each other.

Got the confirmation today of an upgrade for flight Thursday, reservation shows both of us in F for the outbound leg and I can see the charge on my card for the bid. But we have no seat assignments and the seat map shows no seats available to select.
Anyone actually succeeded in selecting seats post-upgrade?
