Hi, thanks for your report! I was going to update the wiki but wanted to clarify, do you mean you had bids accepted for 6 seats? Or got one seat confirmed with 6 seats available in the cabin?

What do you think my chances are?
I am flying from PHX-HNL on Hawaiian Airlines. I was unable to pick a seat because all showed as FULL when I bought the ticket. I still can't pick a seat (all show as full). I got an email from Hawaiian Airlines today asking if I wanted to bid to upgrade to first class.
I checked ExpertFlyer and it shows 2 single First Class seats available (not next to each other).
Lowest Bid Allowed: $255
My Bid: $305
I almost never fly alone, but I'm going out to care for my mom who just had knee surgery. To make matters worse, I have anxiety disorder. I'm not afraid of flying at all, but the whole process (all the rules, the crowds, being too close to people I don't know, and having the back of someone's seat reclined in front of me) are all triggers for me. Now, not having a seat assignment at all and possibly getting stuck in the middle seat in coach all makes me feel more anxious.
So, when I got the offer to upgrade, I jumped at it. What do you think my chances are w/only going $50 above minimum. Top bid would have been $800.

I was wondering if anyone has had successful bid up to first class at a lower price if they have already paid the $80 for the upgrade to an extra comfort seat.

So I just received an E-Mail to bid on an upcoming trip of 4 from OGG to OAK.
Just so I understand this right:
If you pay for a ticket the price difference today between Extra Comfort (which we are booked in) and First is $150 on our date.
Now the upgrade bid starts at >$205 and goes up to $750. Please, please can someone tell me that this is the total for 4 people. Because if this is per person, why would anyone do this when booking F straight away is cheaper than hoping for an upgrade.

It was more of a rhetorical question. If I buy First outright it is cheaper than buying what I bought and bidding for an upgrade. That just doesn't make sense.

I received the bid-up email today for flight HNL-SYD. Bidding starts at $840 with that amount the prospect being 'poor'. For 'excellent' the suggested bid was $2400. It only cost $1000 extra at the time of original purchase (I decided not to bother). Shame on you HawaiianAir.

I thought it might be helpful for others - as I was watching with curiosity and I would have bid had it been $500-600

However, there were still first class seats available and I upgraded the 2 seats when checking in online for $299 each.
In my opinion it is better to wait until check in if you are a platinum or gold member.

I'm sure traveling during labor day weekend attributed to my denial just a bit. Upon check in, they were completely sold out for that particular flight. But had 2 comfort seats available for $80(per seat).

OGG-LAX - $335 accepted. Minimum was about $250, my bid was in the upper "poor" range.
I booked First on my departure flight and regretted not booking both directions so decided to take a chance on a bid. Can't recall what the cost at booking was.

Looks like the moral of the story is - take the good/fair/poor/etc markers with a grain of salt. Since they're just fixed cutoff points that don't change with demand, a lot of the time they only function to trick you out of more money.
