I have been getting plenty of emails for my son's HNL-KIX flight next week. He is in economy, which is 1/3 full.

The minimum bid is $600, which added to the $750 we already paid makes it pretty steep for an 8hr flight.

Odd thing is Google Flights, Kayak and Hawaiian website all don't show the flight existing. Perhaps they stopped selling tickets?

20055: We're sorry but there are no flights available for this date. Please try a different date and/or route.

On the Hawaiian site they have this on the seat selection page:
We're sorry, there are no available upgrades for this flight
Please select a different flight to upgrade your seat.

EDIT: I guess it is sold out, as is the following week. Two weeks later the only tickets are Business Class for $5000. Seeing the seatmap 1/3 full made me think it was pretty empty, but I guess not.

Why are mainland-Hawaii upgrade bids so much lower than Asia-Hawaii bids?!?! Similar flight times, right?

Anyway, I'm booked ICN-HNL-OGG in October. Lowest upgrade bid for ICN-HNL is $600; no bids accepted for HNL-OGG. The one-way ticket cost $700, but first class is pricing out at $3k, so I'm tempted to bid low so that we get some sleep on this flight. Expert Flyer shows 7+ J seats still for sale. On the other hand, there aren't that many Y passengers in the back of the plane and we might be able to snag a row each for the "poor man's lie flat."

ICN-HNL averages 3-4 hours longer flight times than HNL-SFO.

In my experience, international Business Class on any airline is a lot nicer than domestic First Class (and the prices reflect it).

HNL-BOS Bid Up offer suggestions?

My SO and I have a flight home HNL-BOS and under "My Trips" I see the option to bid up to First Class. Minimum bid for this flight is $995.

I was thinking of placing a $1,015 offer to bypass people who bid at the baseline or upped their offer to the next $10 increment. Is this moderately reasonable to expect a 25% shot at it? The meter on the Offer Strength doesn't even move to fair until $1,165.

Spent ~$400 per ticket on Main Cabin. Worse comes to worse, I'll just pay extra for Extra Comfort.

Confirmed upgrade for two people 48 hours before flight. There were three First Class seats available (a bunch of Main Cabin and Extra Comfort seats). I ended up placing a bid at $1,025 per seat a few days after I booked my flight.

All in all, total was ~$2,850 compared to buying them outright at $4,000+.

Any ideas about inter-island upgrade fees? Planning on a one-way LIH-HNL and Main Cabin is 85$. With 2 pieces of luggage, First seems like a decent proposition at 140$, but if the upgrade is in the 20-30$ range I would just try that instead.

Interisland upgrades are $50 with no status, $25 for HA Gold, and free for HA Plat, and are available first-come, first-served beginning when check-in opens. Chances of snagging one depend greatly on route and time. On plat-heavy flights during commuting hours, you can easily miss even if you check in as close to T-24:00:00 as you can hit refresh; at the other extreme, every once in a while you can SDC onto a flight 45 minutes from departure and get upgraded.

On a whim, I decided to bid $280 ($275 min) for LAX-HNL this Thursday (5/26) at 50 hours before.
Bid was accepted and upgrade cleared a little less than 47 hours before the flight.

Completely surprised because it's Memorial Day weekend and the flight is packed.

I’ve read a lot of these posts. But to be clear, if I bid for two seats going from my purchased comfort seats to first (anniversary), I not only don’t control the seat numbers but they also may not be together? Can I reject at that point? Also is my minimum different from those who originally booked coach vs comfort?

What do people think about how much it would take to bid up to first from Honolulu to Kona?

The base fare is $54 and play first class fare us $179. There are 3 seats remaining in inventory T-10 days. Do you get instant confirmation at this stage? If you don’t get it, can you cancel your flight if you have just booked it fir a refund if within 24 hours and try again or rebook in F?
