The base fare is $54 and play first class fare us $179. There are 3 seats remaining in inventory T-10 days. Do you get instant confirmation at this stage? If you don’t get it, can you cancel your flight if you have just booked it fir a refund if within 24 hours and try again or rebook in F?
Personally I would not bid up. It's only a 40-45 minute flight and all you will get is a drink and a wider seat. Inter island flights don't have pre-departure drinks either.

I agree. If you want the extra legroom, book the exit row for an additional $10.

My family of 4 is flying OGG-LGB on A321neo in early January. Upgrade to EC is $80-85, min bid up to First is $500.

If I bid, is it true I won't know if it's accepted til 48 hours before take-off?
If I decide to just do EC, am I able to cancel my bid for F? I would hate to pay $85 for EC, and then they charge me an additional $500+ for First.
Similarly, if I upgrade to EC now and decide to bid for F later, will the minimum bid be lowered to reflect the "smaller" upgrade?

I don't know about your 2nd question but you can cancel your F bid at any time.

Just a funny related anecdote, my sister got the bid email after checking in for HNL-BOS, even though the first class cabin was completely sold out. I guess they were hoping some F passenger was not showing up?
