BRU would be a nice start Always the most expensive with most restrictive fare rules etc..

I was more asking about the "only" part than the "AY" part of the interline agreement.

Also MXP, HAM, DUS, GOT, WAW, VNO, etc. There is no shortage of monopoly AY routes.

Juneyao is a *A 'connect' partner... sadly not in FFP terms... otherwise this would a nice PVG flight to take

ITA has the fare at 919€, even higher than AY (but seems cheaper in the opposite direction).
Routesonline tells us the following:

"Juneyao Airlines last week extended schedule listing for Shanghai Pu Dong – Helsinki route into winter 2019/20 season, on/after 27OCT19. During winter season, the carrier will operate this route 3 times a week, instead of 7 weekly in summer season. Boeing 787-9 operates this route.

HO1607 PVG0055 – 0520HEL 789 246
HO1608 HEL1420 – 0520+1PVG 789 246"

No mention of any 5th freedom flights, but I suppose there's just enough time to fly to most of Europe, including the rumoured MAN.

A320 cruise speed is 840 kph and B787 is 903 kph, which should shave off some 10–15 minutes when comparing AY MAN service with HO. An example schedule could look like this. (For comparison, ET operates 5th freedom flights between ARN and OSL, and the plane stays on the ground at ARN for 60 minutes.) It’s tight, but doable.

HO1607 PVG0055 – 0520HEL
HO1607 HEL0620 – 0705MAN

HO1608 MAN0845 – 1320HEL
HO1608 HEL1420 – 0520+1PVG

Please note, this is not a real schedule, just an idea of what the schedule could be if HO were to operate 5th freedom flights to MAN.

A tight schedule does not look like a good idea for a fifth freedom flight, though.

I don't disagree with you. But HO might. As far as I've understood, with no personal experience, though, Chinese airlines are not exactly the most punctual ones on Earth so perhaps that's not too much of a concern to them.

HEL-MAN and HEL-PVG would be covered by EC261 though. And MAN-HEL until Brexit then by whatever equivalent the UK sets up.

If they mostly transport Chinese pax, this is unlikely to be a concern. The Chinese pax will not know about their rights and, by extension, would not make EC261 claims.

Sichuan airlines wants to fly CTU-HEL-CPH. Flights might start this year. Finavia odottaa Helsinki-Vantaalle jo kolmatta kiinalaisyhtiötä | lentoposti.fi

If this happens, we might get an intra-Nordic 5th Freedom route.

Since yesterday I am AY pleb and truly un-affiliated. Maybe should join the FF-program 'Golden Panda' and fly Sichuan widebody for CPH-HEL!
