Is it standard practice for FAs to use Royal Laurel (J) seats in the aft J cabin for crew rest? I just flew TPE-LAX round trip in the aft J cabin and noticed that an FA was sleeping in one of the center seats in Row 11 on both flights.

Aren’t BR 77Ws equipped with overhead crew rests? Maybe they just use unoccupied J seats on an opportunistic basis? I recall that those seats were still available for selection on the night before the flight.

I have also seen a few flight attendants sleeping in some of the business class seats on nearly all of the long hauls I've taken this year. For my case, they mostly sit or sleep in row 1, so I believe it's sort of a standard practice now.

only if there is an open J seat, the FA will use it as a crew rest seat.
yeah, there is still overhead crew rest. they also have 2 seats by the door(crew rest) also reserved for them as well.

Thanks for the clarifications! So it is standard practice or a de-facto practice then.

it seems like a de-facto practice, but every EVA chief pursuer seems to know its allowed. In terms of requirements, its not required.

short haul may have a different policy though, i can only speak for long haul.

Hello Kitty plane flying to US but not flying ORD-TPE

I've seen the Hello Kitty B777 flying to IAH and back to TPE for a couple times the past couple weeks. I thought if it were to fly to us it would ORD exclusively. Anyone know why the plane is flying to non ORD destination in the USA?

I'll be flying on the 77A on BR31/32 soon in economy. According to EVA website, economy seat pitch is 31 ~ 32 inches.

Anyone know exactly which seats are 31 or 32 inches?

What do you think of the middle seats for a couple on the 77W in J? It looks like you can barely see each other because of the herringbone layout but I assume you can still lean forward and talk to your partner?

Yes you can lean forward and talk; there is no adjustable privacy divider, if I recall correctly, but there is a fixed piece of trim that blocks your line of vision so you do have to lean forward to see the other passenger.

In older non-reverse herringbone it was recommended for couples/family to sit facing each other with the aisle in between seats, but with reverse herringbone it's more difficult, and usually the seats are staggered such that you don't really see the other person across the aisle.

Scattered opinions over the years suggest that the lav behind 6A is not much of a bother from both a noise and smell perspective. Do other more recent fliers/posters have differing opinions? Anything else to be wary of, e.g., galley noise or light pollution, in 6A?

I have sat in 6A many a times and can say that I never faced any problems with either noise or anything else. Not sure though if they keep some of the blankets or pillows there but sure enough there is space for my carryon.

It definitely depends on how sensitive you are to sound/light. I have never had issues with smell because the FAs tidy up every hour or so. However, I do often notice galley noise while they are preparing the meals since the J meals really involve a lot of ceramic plates that tend to "clink". Really only bothersome on those redeyes where you're trying to maximize sleep.
