Great info. Happy to hear that Emirates considers MRU an important market and wants to help. As far as I know this is only the second flight allowed infrom Dubai in the past five months.

So Emirates will resume Cape town and Johannesburg on 1 Oct an Durban from 4 Oct

Now this is what I find interesting

Ek has one flight to Johannesburg EK 763 dxb 0955 arrival 1615
But you can also book their Durban flight as it now routes DXB0405 JNB1015 to DUR EK775. It's outound from Durban routes direct back to DXB

Here is the part that's interesting. So if your flying to Durban you would wait on the plane I assume till the Johannesburg pax are offloaded. But now if you search to flying from Johannesburg back to Dubai it gives you two options th direct JNb to DXB and also the JNB via Durban to DXB flight.

So that means the arrival pax into south Africa(Durban) is mixing with departing pax from south Africa (Johannesburg)

Maybe I'm.missing something

Seems nope is the answer since many flights are now no longer in sync with the frequency to support the offer

I am less than impressed with the revised schedule as my MAN-DXB-DUR flight scheduled for November for my daughter’s wedding have been amended to the point where they have added one day layover in DXB going over and 2 days on the return and now just 24 hours in Durban arriving after the wedding. Given the other constraints, my daughter will have a smaller ceremony on the planned dates and we will do a family event in a year’s time. A call to Customer Services is about to be scheduled.

Yes that's new times aren't good for me as well to get my parents back from Brisbane, the original flight times in and out of Durban were perfect

The UAE is on the just announced red list meaning people from there or living there cannot enter South Africa. The list will be reviewed every two weeks.

Not sure how this affects transit passengers or the airline itself flying to the country.

I’ve looked the list several times and didn’t see UAE. Checked with local emirates station manager, who said UAE isn’t on the high-eish list (Qatar is though).

Could you share your source?

Edit: I can now see there appear to be two separate lists: one with 60 countries, including the “United Emirates”, and another with 57 countries and excluding UAE. Based on the criteria communicated, I think the UAE will be excluded from the list, but who knows. A minister earlier in the week explicitly referenced that the UAE would not be included.

It looks as though UAE IS on the banned list. See dha.gov.za which is the SA Home affairs website.

South Africa - the list was issued yesterday and updated several times throughout the afternoon. The latest list includes the UAE. Here is the link:

thank, yes, spoke to the airline again and they say it was updated. but they also say that the other clarification is that this applies to in-bound travel into South Africa. South Africans (and presumably residents) can travel to the high risk countries and return, with tests done and all that.

Very confusing.
