Information on Load requests
The number of seats for sale for a flight are available via ExpertFlyer.com, a subscription-based service with a 5-day free trial. A subscription is $9.99/month and can be enabled and disabled any time. It is encouraged to subscribe rather than post repeatedly in this thread.
NB: Op-up changes or overselling of a flight cannot be determined with certainty from this information, only inferred to be more or less probable.
For a once-off load request please follow these guidelines:
Flight loads >7 days out are not very useful, as the airline could still sell many seats, unless availability of a specific fare bucket (e.g. Business Saver upgrade) is requested. If you wish to know the general flight load please don't post >7 days before departure.
When requesting a load please provide the following information:
- Date of flight (departure date)
- Flight Number
- Origin
- Destination
These four fields are mandatory in searching on ExpertFlyer (see screenshot below) and it isn't fair to except those who pay for their subscriptions to also have to go look up which cities a specific flight number is from and to (also some flight numbers are onward flights (5th freedom routes, e.g. CMB-MLE) and loads will differ significantly depending on which sector of the flight is checked.

For that you don’t need an availability check, but a seat map. The free version of ExpertFlyer gives you access to current seat maps.

1 week out, booked into J (well, really, "O") -
EK230 13-Feb

Rolling op-ups? Or too early to tell? Yesterday First was F4 A4 with no seats selected.
Not that I'm anywhere near the top of the priority list.

The plot thickens... could be a day to get bumped and get a free ticket? The seatmap for F has one seat occupied, so it seems they're saving space for op-ups now.
If I volunteer to bump, I'd go for next day rather than same day in Y, for sure.

I'm booked in Economy Flex, and just got an email for an upgrade to business for 650 AED.
Worth paying for the upgrade or is there a chance I get upgraded at the airport?

I would say close to physical capacity, up to you if you're willing to risk it.

Is it possible to check seatmaps? I want to upgrade a flight from J-F using miles, but before I do I want to make sure that there are two F seats together (in the middle?!)
If yes, would someone mind checking EK766 for Joburg to Dubai on March 12th?
Thanks!
Richard

1. Yes, you can check seat maps. The free ExpertFlyer option allows you to do this.
2. I quickly checked for you and currently 1 E/F on EK766 on 12/3 are free. 2E/F are also not allocated but are currently 'blocked'. They will most likely become available some time around on line check in (which is T-48 hours with EK).
There is upgrade availability (Z bucket) for 2 seats on that flight, so be quick!
