They might have dropped $ 5 million on Jennifer Aniston, but the technical execution of the ad is poor. Especially the scene where they start laughing and it becomes apparent that it is a nightmare is not done well. I would have expected much more from EK. The script is great, shame they weren't able to translate that into the actual ad.
In the first 30 secs, the U.S. aircraft does not look terrible at all. They did a much better job with the previous ad where the U.S. aircraft was in black-and-white and actually looked much more like the sh@tty real thing ...

JA's only nightmare should be about her losing escrow deposit on this deal. SOP for poor performance.
Americans associate satirical comedy with truth, irony I suppose, mainly because our MSM reporting is measured, biased or confused so we have to depend on comedy shows for reality check and we embrace even harsh criticism with grace. Most of our top rated show (news sources) are late night comedy shows. We trust John Stewart more than Brain Williams, John Oliver more than Richard Quest, I can go on. They don't need to hold back because of their sponsorship, solidarity, affiliation or any one of million other reasons.
Latest SNL skit on DL 744s is one such example. I am sure even DL CEO will have a good laugh and serious internal discussion.

They pretty much hit the nail on the head with regards to US aircraft and US crews. It's a drab, depressing, and gray affair followed by apathetic at best service, and typically almost insulting service.

If the criteria for an acceptable ad is now to show the entirety of a product instead of highlighting features the company wants to, then I think that would send shockwaves throughout the advertising world and that indignation should be louder about advertising for just about anything seen to be a luxury product, be that Apple smartphones, luxury cars, holiday destinations, etc. etc. I don’t think it’s fair to hold up a single company to an impossible (or double) standard.
Especially from reading the posts in the domestic U.S. airline forums regarding lack of PDBs, etc.

Methinks Etihad is due for another commercial where Nicole Kidman has a nightmare about being Jennifer Aniston on Emirates without a butler service and a private Residence with a private shower, and then she wakes up in the Residence and tells her butler about the horrifying nightmare, who listens compassionately...
She just needs to try negotiating their Customer Service to have the most basic of tasks performed, such as crediting of missing miles!!! Or enquiring when the AUH First Class lounge may re-open.

Even on SkyTrax, there is disagreement between Editor and Customer ratings. EK gets four stars by editors, but it only scores 6/10 by customers on SkyTrax.
Airlineratings appears to be new. Don't know how good are their service quality ratings.
But their airline safety rating methodology is very balanced. Most sites give ratings based on one criteria or even selectively present available data to help their paid customers or their own agenda, but airlineratings uses eight different categories to rate an airline.
A tiny bit more balanced in a completely biased world of aviation analytics/reporting.

Let's hope we get a better assessment from them compared to Skytrax

Not very good or reliable.
LOL. Air New Zealand wins their Airline of the Year in 2014 and 2015.
Cathay Pacific is the best in business class for 2014 AND 2015? Really? What about SQ or QR??
Whats the best new world carrier?

Don't know about SQ but QR got lower rating because Qatar's ICAO audit scores were lower in two of eight ICAO USOAP categories. For same reason Thai, Garuda or Asiana may get lower ratings on airlineratings. Unique approach to tie airline's safety rating into service quality rating.

A terrific ad.
I'm never going to spend $20,000 USD for a First Ticket SFO-DXB but it still makes me want to fly Emirates anyway. ^
They did do a great job of simulating the US carriers as well. The red blue and white uniforms are so familiar.
