Bologna??? I didn't even know people would go there for holidays? Think about BCN, SGN and further destinations in South America.
Or is it for Cargo? Ferrari/ Ducati? I can't believe it. |

its not about the holidays.. there is pax and cargo demand to or from any european city... BCN is a potential route plus they would really benifit if they operate a 2nd daily to MAD via BCN since BCN-MAD-BCN is one the worlds busiest routes....
Would they be allowed to fly BCN - MAD? |

How about La Spezia on the West Coast of Italy? Most Italians haven't heard of it. It's a bit silly to claim that there's demand from any city in Europe - maybe to fill a Gulfstream, but not an A340.
Would they be allowed to fly BCN - MAD? im not sure about BCN-MAD because i dont know what kind of agreement is signed between the UAE and Spain i hope there was some sort of site or something check air agreement between different countries!! @:-) !!! |

Why on earth would EK want to fly between BCN and MAD? There are numerous, very strong reasons why EK wouldn't fly between BCN and MAD, and not even due to regulatory restrictions. 1) You even say it's one of the world's busiest routes, and therefore has lots of competition, therefore keeping fares low. I would hazzard a guess and say that the only reasons the airlines fly BCN and MAD is to offer network connectivity and they make very little profit on it. 2) Passengers, and specifically businessmen, want frequency, so that if they miss a flight they don't have to wait long for the next one. How would EK compete with Spanair and Iberia which have multiple flights per day. 3) There is a high speed train route between Barcelona and Madrid which has already seriously affected revenues for the airlines. 4) Frequent flyers. BCN and MAD are home to lots of people linked up to Star Alliance and Iberia. Why would they then fly EK? 5) Do you realise the extra costs involved from stopping over in BCN on the way to MAD? 6) It would make journeys longer to and from DXB and therefore make EK less competitive with QR. |

Simply put: Emirates carrying local traffic on Madrid-Barcelona not only makes zero sense, but is illegal. |

With few exceptions, foreign airlines cannot fly domestic routes (although the EU/Switzerland/Norway is considered "one" market, so a British airline can fly a French domestic route).

EK could fly DXB-BCN-MAD-DXB for example and carry passengers DXB-BCN or DXB-BCN-MAD and BCN-MAD-DXB or MAD-DXB just not BCN-MAD.
