How often does the ICE go down completely in longhaul?
Thought Id start a thread to see how many time the ICE goes off completely.
just completed a DXB-SYD on A380 8 hrs out the ICE froze after some time they said it was to be shut down competely.
,
no
music, info, movies for over 4 hrs in all classes.
I understand if it happens on US airlines they go around and give MCOs
I saw none of that.
any idea of compensation?
oh by the way I was in F

Never had it last more than 30 minutes, usually around just after take off. Sounds like your flight had it real rough.
These days I go through the IFE selection quite quickly, so just load my netbook up with whatever I'm interested in and go with that.

You probably need to write in to complain. Very few people will do this, so it minimizes the compensation they need to give. I had something similar for most of the length of a JFK flight on Etihad, they gave me about 5,000 miles. Wasn't the whole aircraft though, just my seat.

I had ICE die on me about an hour into a 16 hour DXB-IAH flight. I was travelling in paid J, and emailed EK Customer Service to follow up. Was given 15,000 miles as compensation.

Importantly you should always complain as soon as you are aware you have a problem, they may be able to fix it or find you another seat.
If they can not make sure they are aware of your displeasure, be polite but firm, discreetly note the names of all flight crew you deal with, follow up later in the flight by enquiring about the complaints procedure.
Then follow up with a written complaint asking for compensation based on you not getting the services advertised.

This is a hot potato, basically you are paying for a service, you may have chosen to fly with a particular airline because of what they advertised, even though the small print may exclude them from liability it would be very unfair not to compensate.

i upraded to business using skyward miles dxb to manchester as soon as i got on the aircraft IFE didnt work the FA tried to reboot 5 times with no joy, plus no other seats available, so sat for 7 hours just drinking champers!! guy near me said complain to emirates in dubai which i did after 3 weeks got offered 15,000 miles which wont get you anything so i refused, i asked for an upgrade on a future flight so after a lot of who-harrring they agreed,as it ment id used my skyward miles for nothing,
so i booked another flight so 1st feb 2011 i go to dubai business on the A380 !!!, for the first time, cant wait hee-hee!!

FWIW I've never had IFE go down on any LH Emirates flight in six years of flying with them.
I'm also booked on the A380 in J in January for the first time and mightily looking forward to it

Amazingly I've never had the IFE break down at all in the past 18-months of heavy travel on EK.
I did have a J seat completely have a heart attack the other day (I was op-upped) so I didn't think it warranted a formal complaint as it was a MEL-SIN flight (early evening). It wouldn't recline at all, and multiple staff members came over, pulled up the seat cushion (all the reset buttons and manual op controls are under your butt) and tried everything (from cursing in Arabic to bashing the controls).
I decided to drink heavily to compensate. Seemed to work out fine...

I had ICE go down in my J seat. Thankfully, the seat next to me was empty and the ICE was working. DXB-LAX would have seemed like a much longer flight without ICE.
