I do feel sorry for the guy's wife but it's still no excuse to try and expect a free upgrade to business. I fly economy all the time and I would love to get a free uograde as well, but this is starting to seem like an excuse of using his wife's injury to score a free upgrade for himself.

Update

My wife and kids did travel today and were actually upgraded to buisness class. We reached LAX at about 2.40 PM and were in the last few at the airport. A very nice Indian lady was at the counter who looked at the passports and upon a simple request went and spoke to her manager and in a few minutes ordered a wheel chair and gave us the upgraded boarding pass for wife and the 7 year old.We had made up our mind to pay for the upgrade but it got done without money.Simply talking sweetly got us the upgrade.

As stated in my OP,I was not flying so was not looking for the upgrade for self. Also wife`s injury was not an excuse but she had a sesamoid bone fracture.
If you want an upgrade as stated by you no harm trying who knows you may get one too.
Anyways good luck.

I don't really see how she can carry a baby & manipulate crutches at the same time let alone the carry-on baggage necessary for herself & the kids.

Perhaps with a wheelchair from check-in to boarding gate and a posse of FAs to get her seated but even then the inflight logistics would be horrific.

I find the scenario as depicted rather improbable and (as others have hinted) a bit self seeking.

If it is essential that she makes this trip you need to face up to flying back with her & the kids to look after them. If you do not choose to do so I think EK would be within it's rights to refuse to let her fly.

Dave,
MY wife had a sesamoid bone fracture which was not that bad and did not immobilze her. Also I understand your concern for the crutches but she did not need them and could easily manage the kids. Also not only did EK not refuse her service but gave her a comp upgrade.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, she had secured bulkhead seats to begin with over te phone, but at the airport was also upgraded.
Anyways thanks again.

Thanks for the reply Basil, her injury was not that bad and was a sesamoid bone fracture which not hinder her travel. She has already departed and things went smooth at the airport.

You came on with your first post which was a hard luck story. As I said in an earlier post, your first port of call should have been Emirates to see what they could do. And now the injury was not as bad as you made out in the first place. You wanted advice? Nuzbim gave it:

i'll give you a 100% way to get into business class, take out your credit card and pay the biz class fare, problem solved, no need to ask for other tips. see how easy that was.

Did you take that advice? No. You turned up at the airport and blagged an upgrade. Well done. No doubt , this will be used by you again in the future..."x, y or z has happened. I got an upgrade before". If you had been serious about paying for the upgrade you would have done so long before you got to the airport to ensure that your was was 100% guaranteed a J class seat.

Welcome to Flyertalk and I hope you join in the debates.

Fish,
I came to this forum for advice and all kinds of people give all kinds of advice and taking that advice I would chalk the best course for my family.
What you did was to trash my post and I also saw from your reply to another person`s question in another forum totally unrelated to me that you are in the habit of trashing and insulting people.
Without knowing the exact situation of others and draw your own inference as you did in the above reply. At the airport we gave the agent 2 requests which were either to comp the upgrade or to charge for the same and the airline was good enough to give a free upgrade.
As for taking the advice from Nuzbim, I can only say that if you read thru all the replies some else adviced to secure a bulkseat, so different people have different advices and surely we took time to decide on the 7000$ cost of the upgrades but were prepared to spend for the same by the time we reached the airport.
As for your sympathies keep them for yourself as you need them the most.

Finally I will join FT in any healthy debate in which my opinion can help someone positively.

I can't help feeling that's a little harsh, II. Fish did not 'trash' your post, nor, I can assure you, is he in the habit of insulting people. I also can't but help feel that you've actually got off quite lightly here as most people whose first ever post on these boards is "how can I blag an upgrade?" usually get thrown to the wolves.

I have to confess to being a little confused about all of this though; after everything, you eventually admit that your wife's injury wasn't actually that bad, it didn't immobilize her and she could easily manage the kids:

With this in mind, I would be a little careful about bragging on a public fora about how you effectively managed to "pull the wool" over the airline's eyes. Having worked as a commercial pilot for many years, I can assure you that such things do not go down terribly well with either the airline nor with the passengers who pay a small fortune to sit in the seats that you and your wife seemingly managed to con the airline into giving her for nothing. If I were you Sir, I'd currently be battling with my own conscience now, rather than with Mr Fish. . .

Kind regards,

JGX

I'm in total agreement with JGX. Nobody on this forum has been particularly harsh in their responses. As a matter of fact, considering what I now know, about how an injury was exaggerated for your own benefit, I actually have quite a lot I'd like to say, but I'll limit it to "shame on you!" for now.

In any case, I travel on EK a lot, and I have to be honest, I've not heard of anyone else who has been upgraded for these reasons, in fact I have seen many people refused. I am sure the policy not to provide free upgrades to non frequent flyers exists purely because of people such as yourselves, who take advantage of the compassion of the airline/people who represent the airline working at check in or onboard.

I have a couple of contacts, I may try to find out what actually happened, I'd be very interested to know whether the scenario went as you described, indianindian2006, considering that your first post here was less than 100% truthful.

Thanks to both of you for your support. I was not trying to be harsh - just realistic. I was not going to respond to Indianindian as I did not want to get into a slanging match. Will he return to the forum? Time will tell

JCX,

Being new to the forum I did not know that such posts were not welcome here, so I agree it is my error in asking such a question.
As for my wife`s injury I had never said that it was immobilizing her,my first post was on the day of the injury and in the next 2 days things progressed well enough for her.
Also when at the airport we requested the agent for either a comp upgrade or we were ready to pay having made our mind to spend the money,it was the airline discretion to give us the upgrade so having conned the airline did not exsist unless you have some different meaning for the word con.
As for Fish what offended me was the word sympathy used in a derogatory manner.
Anyways learnt my lesson about this forum.

Regards,
Indian.

What do you know EKglobetrotter,Where and how did you get the idea that the injury was exaggerated. In my OP I never wrote about the injury being as severe as understood by you.As for the policy of Emirates or other airlines go take your advice to them and get that changed ,but to say that I took advantage of them all I will say is shame on you. I was ready to pay for the upgrade but just got lucky.
Also go use all your contacts to find out what happened and then you will come to conclusion that I was 100% truthful.
