Both ece and ecf to ewr?

Am I seeing correctly?

I was just running through the schedule for September and October and noticed that they are running BOTH new 772's to EWR!!!

For the time being, it seems that EWR will be all lie-flat in biz.

Why wouldn't they do this with 001 and 002 or 008 to/from JFK? TO EWR I understand - its as useful as the 001. But FROM EWR, the 028 is at an oddball time where people don't get as much "use" out of the lie-flat's.

They get a lot of "use" of the new entertainment and lighting systems...

I think we have been discussing this for a long while that LY 028 EWR will be the destination LY will use the two new 772 on,
The reason is because they still need LY001 to have 744 capacity.
The only big change el al has made is that they will be using the 772 on CDG more than on LHR - again i think because LY315/316 needs 744 capacity.

These 744 will not get the new interior til next year!!!!

Just read on elal.co.il that they will have all 4 "old" 777's fitted with the new F and C seats by the end of this winter.

I see it like this right now LY has to contend with CO with 2-777s Daily into TLV with COs BF seating (although I dont care for it) which is better then what LY had till now, so it makes sense to use the new planes , so a sto try and get those who are paying top $$ to come over/back to LY. For this Id say LY is ahead of CO.

As for JFK for the next few months LY is still the only game in town. Israir isnt a contender. However starting 3/08 DL will be starting up again non-stop from JFK with a 767-300 with Lie-flat seats. If I was LY Id get Lie-flats into JFK ASAP, before DL beats them to it.

Craz, I think JFK and EWR are the same market - and I certainly think LY treats it that way. I for one switch between the two all the time and I see many of the same "regulars" at both places. I think sending the new 772's there probably has more to do with LY's need to have them pronto on both NYC and LHR routings and the EWR option serves them best; 027-028 is the quickest turnaround they have in the USA market in general during most of the year. Granted that in JUL-AUG they turn around in JFK in less than 3 hrs, but usually the 001 AC lands at 6 AM and doesn't turn around till 8:00 pm or midnight (tremendous waste). Thus, sending 028 gets back to Israel early enough (8 AM) that the same AC goes to LHR and back (10 AM-ish), and then setting out for another cycle to EWR. If they dedicate both 772's like this, then 027-028 and 315-316 are both consistent products. Only drawback is that they are using the lie-flats on the daytrip to LHR and not where its really needed, on the redeye.

LatusElAl,

I know that many Carriers will consider EWR & JFK as the same markets except when it comes to fare prices, be it for Intl or Domestic.

But more important I know a number of people who dont see it that way. A person in Queens isnt gonna go to EWR unless the fare is really alot cheaper out of there or JFK is sold-out. Same for someone in NJ or SI. I guess Manhattan and Westchester can be toss-ups.

didnt know about the quick turn around time @ EWR that as You posted probably has more to do with it then anything else.

But still LY had better get itself into shape at JFK cause I do know some people who pay top $$ for Biz on LY and as of March if DL has those Lie-Flat seats they are switching over to DL

as i stated before, the new 777 will actually see CDG much more than LHR LY315. LHR will mostly be 744 - and the main reson they use the new 777 to EWR is that LY001 is a 744 route. And as for the "redeye" (LY318) does have lie flat - they will use 762/3 - which have very comfortable angled lie flat seats. the pitch on the 767's are 60' while on new 772 its 62'.
Later in the year, the new 777 will go to JFK twice a week but as LY007 (dayflight) and return LY002.
You can check everything i said, its already uploaded on the winter schedule.
