I have flown regularly with Easyjet over the last few years.

It is MUCH better than Ryanair. The prices are clear on the website, and although there can be a scrum at the gate for 'free seating', if you buy speedy boarding, and are not bussed to the aircraft you can avoid this.

Service is friendly and efficient and you are not bombarded by self-praise from Ryanair throughout the flight.

The baggage allowance is very fair: 20kg in hold and as long as you can lift your ONE piece of hand baggage yourself into the overhead lockers, and it fits the maximum dimensions you are well away!!

Food and drink on board is available for sale. The only disappointment can be when the passengers on previous flights have eaten the lot and it wasn't restocked at the turnround airport!!

Easyjet treats its customers politely and is everything Ryanair is not. AND the planes are kept cleaner and the staff treat you like a human being.

However, it is a LCC, and a point-to-point airline and you will need to read the conditions of carriage carefully and adhere to them ..... allowing plenty of time to check in!

Thank you very much for these infos.
Leaving from Roma FCO, for sure we will be bussed to the plane... wich is too bad because I really do hate the wrestle on getting the seats....!
We also have the option of flying British Airways, but the times of these flighs are horrible (much better with easyjet) , and the price is the double.
I also red that Easyjet planes are quite new, which makes me more confortable...
I hope they are good in being punctual, since we have a connecting flight ( but 4 hours later..) once we get to Gatwick.

I agree with most of the above, though I have one + and one -

+ You can get a boarding card some 30 days before you fly, if you have no hold luggage. Coupled with speedy boarding this makes for a stress free route through the airport.

- Sometimes boarding is started as the incomming aircraft arrives. You may spend 20 minutes or more at the front of a queue in a draughty stairwell or "cattle pen" before getting on board.

Overall - not bad for the money. I flew to AMS at a weeks notice a couple of weeks ago - KLM wanted 350 for MAN-AMS, Easy was 78 LPL-MAN for the same times (+/- 1 hour) including the speedy boarding.

Make sure you don't include the insurance when making your booking - it takes a couple of clicks to get rid of it (unless you need it!)

The OP might wish to have a look at the Budget Travel forum for more information, views and advice on Easyjet.

Worth mentioning that on newer aircraft the seats do not recline - this can be either a good thing or a bad thing however you look at it. Personally on relatively short flights I don't feel the need to recline so I like the fact that the person in front of me can't take my legroom.

Worst bit about easyjet can be the fight for the seats, luckily the couple of time I've flown them they were lightly loaded and could get a decent seat with a row to myself. I've also had 'free seating' on Alitalia a couple of times despite the fact a seat was allocated at check-in, not sure why they did this (aircraft change?) but that caused more confusion because the passengers were not expecting it.

On-board I've never had a problem, service is just as good as any pay on board airline (such as bmi). The staff are friendly and unlike Ryanair I've never encountered any forceful selling.

They're definitely better than Ryanair, seats are more comfortable, staff seem more competent, no annoying self promoting jingles played on-board, better luggage allowances hand and hold (although remember you do pay for hold luggage now). Easyjet is a decent option when prices and schedule are convenient, Ryanair I'd go out the way to avoid - which is easy as they seem to go out their way to avoid most cities they allegedly fly to.

Poor staff training on Ryanair isn't just a customer service issue, it's a safety issue too. There's been reports in emergency situations where their staff have seemed totally clueless with what to do. Fortunately there's been no major incidents that would put their training to the test.

But always check prices as often people assume that the budget carriers are cheaper but they have a fare above a carrier like BA. Ryanair can have so many add-ons the price you pay ends up well above the price you thought you were buying at. And if anything goes wrong you're on your own.

Reducing time on the ground is a major aspect of profitability for LCCs, so I believe the record of getting the intended plane turned around on time is excellent. Easyjet will be good at this for sure. Alas, there's a flip side which is that *if* there's a problem with the planeyou probably won't get anywhere near the treatment you would from BA. So I'd imagine whilst very rare, easyjet has proportionately more 8 hour delays than BA.

I'd personally want to be insured against missing the gatwick flight, but it's very unlikely to happen.

Wonder when Easyjet/Ryanair will adopt the Air Asia "service" of on-line pre-flight seat selection for a fee of course.

First first rows and exit rows have a more expensive fee as they are designated as hot seats.

All pax who paid for a seat will be allowed to board first to claim their seats before the others come through.
Unclear as to what happens if a pax with a paid pre-selected seats arrive to board late and someone else is already in that seat.
