Worth mentioning that on newer aircraft the seats do not recline - this can be either a good thing or a bad thing however you look at it. Personally on relatively short flights I don't feel the need to recline so I like the fact that the person in front of me can't take my legroom.
Worst bit about easyjet can be the fight for the seats, luckily the couple of time I've flown them they were lightly loaded and could get a decent seat with a row to myself. I've also had 'free seating' on Alitalia a couple of times despite the fact a seat was allocated at check-in, not sure why they did this (aircraft change?) but that caused more confusion because the passengers were not expecting it.
On-board I've never had a problem, service is just as good as any pay on board airline (such as bmi). The staff are friendly and unlike Ryanair I've never encountered any forceful selling.
They're definitely better than Ryanair, seats are more comfortable, staff seem more competent, no annoying self promoting jingles played on-board, better luggage allowances hand and hold (although remember you do pay for hold luggage now). Easyjet is a decent option when prices and schedule are convenient, Ryanair I'd go out the way to avoid - which is easy as they seem to go out their way to avoid most cities they allegedly fly to.
Poor staff training on Ryanair isn't just a customer service issue, it's a safety issue too. There's been reports in emergency situations where their staff have seemed totally clueless with what to do. Fortunately there's been no major incidents that would put their training to the test.
