Walmart, where the cigarrettes are only available in the express lane @ 15 items or less......unless you are waiting to buy cigs...which then means you can get in line with your 2 carts filled with junk food and make everyone wait, as you debate whether to buy menthol or regular. Of course at a pack at a time...God forbid you invest in a carton!

I saw a Kroger self-checkout get it's just desserts the other day.
Someone dropped a massive bottle of red wine on it (port me thinks?) and it looked like it was bleeding to death and was angrily ranting about putting the item back in the bag. The attendant had wandered off and no one was around, so whoever did it ran away, but the computer still sat there very upset talking to itself.

Small chance this was an accident, although a shame to waste a bottle of wine in the process. If humans don't rise up now, machines will be our masters in no time.

perhaps a big old cake would have been more the thing.

Since most of mine are already covered...
When I used to live in SE Idaho there was a large contingent of people who were against alcohol living in the area. One time when checking out with a case of beer (WalMart, unfortunately) I found out the cashier was apparently one of them.
How? After sliding the box across the scanner she left with a look of disgust, went to the women's room and washed her hands, making a giant show of wiping off when she came back.
If I had had free time I would have complained to the manager right then and there. It is a shame I was in a rush. It's fine to have certain religious views, but when you are functioning in a customer service role the customer doesn't need to catch attitude for it.

I'd have come back with a box of condoms and a carton of smokes. I'd have given her my biggest wink too.

There's a very good solution to that. Spare yourself from going to Walmart. We are talking about grocery stores here....

Not a complaint but a question:
Let's say I'm in the 12 items or less aisle (or the 12 items or fewer aisle for those who prefer better grammer). I have 2 boxes of pasta, 2 jars of sauce, a 6-pack of Pepsi and 10 cans of tuna. Is that 15 items (counted individually) or 4 items (only 4 different things)?
Apologies if this was asked and answered in this thread already.

I don't think an apology is necessary in regard to asking the question. After all, if you breathe air and buy groceries at a grocery store, you've already po'd most of the people who've posted already.

Or stack them neatly so your order looks smaller. Or just don't make eye contact with anyone. Actually, I think you're fine since we hope the checker will do a 10x tuna and not ring them up individually.
