Has anyone come through SGN recently? The boss is departing in a few hours and has offered to pick up something. After a single malt scotch that's not Glenfiddich or Glenfarcas which I already have.

Suggestions? ^

At SIN in T-1 this past Monday: 1.14 litre Chivas 12 year old for S$40.50. But, there was an unadvertised at-the-register discount to bring it down to S$35.80.

A nice every day scotch at a great price.

hey cz, can't comment on the singapore stuff, but i would just offer a warning for buying electronics. the fakes out there are so good these days, it's really hard to tell, and the last thing you want to do is speed a couple hundred bucks and not have a real warranty with it if something happens. unless you're buying from a genuine apple store (not the "apple store"), then i wouldn't buy it. good luck and safe travels!

sorry cz, never been to singapore, so i have no advice for you. truthfully, i wouldn't buy any electronics in asia, especially as a foreigner. it's so hard to tell what is real and fake, and it's most likely a fake. did you hear about all those "apple stores" that popped up in china? they were so realistic that i think the workers there actually thought they were working for apple. the products might have been legit, but i'm sure you'd have a tough time on a warranty claim. for electronics, it's not worth it to me to get a discount on a fake. i'd consider more stuff that i wouldn't care as much if it was real/fake, like textiles stuff (northface jacket, etc). safe travels!

How are the duty free prices on liquor (whisky in particular) at JFK?

Also, I'm flying JFK-IST-ADB and am trying to figure out If I buy a bottle of whisky at JFK duty free will security at IST let me take it on the next domestic leg to Izmir? Searched for quite a bit and can't find the answer. I'd hate to drop close to $100 on a bottle only to have it confiscated in Istanbul. Thanks.

IST has security at each gate so it would probably be confiscated. I don't know if you need to go through customs in IST - if you do then you'd probably have a chance to put it in your checked luggage.
